Does anyone have any information on this maker. I know he started making in 1957 and was in Florida, but that's all I have. Anyone know if he's still active, alive, etc.

I last visited Durrell at his home in Sparr, Florida in 1990. I assume he is still there, but not sure if he is still making knives---he is a farrior by trade.-------Sandy Morrissey

I've since spoken with Durrell on several occasions. While he's no longer making knives, he certainly loves to talk knives. I have about ten of his knives, mostly made in the seventies and eighties. He remembered each one of the knives from just a verbal description and could me how they and when they were made. In some cases, he was even able to tell me who he had made them for! It was really amazing given the shear number of knives he had made over his career.

One of his Bowies (with one of my sheaths) now resides in the National Knife Museum in Sevierville, TN where it moved from Chattanooga. Sandy

Yes, he was telling me about that the last time we spoke about a month ago. I bought one of two knives he had left, which was a damascus Scagel-type bowie that he had made for his son. It was the only one that he used the bowie stamp on. It's really a spectacular knife and the sheath is exceptional as well.
