I always tell myself that I have to periodically clean my dust collector/extractor system. But if something is hard to do, you always find excuses to do it at a later time. Well since in this case, postponing things can have dramatic results (fire), I thought I should make it as easy as possible to do.

I first wanted to figure out some easy disconnect for the different segments but in my cramp space, it was not an easy undertaking. Plus, I don't always succeed but, whenever I build/design something, I always make a point of simplifying it as much as I can. So this is how the Dust Collector Cleaning Traps came to life. As you see in the pics, nothing fancy or complicated. A simple trap with a door hinge (couldn't find the piano hinge I know I have somewhere). I might seal it with aluminum tape between cleanings but even as it is, with a less than perfect fit, it shuts down pretty tight when I start the blower and the loss of pressure is not perceptible. Of course the 1HP blower is pretty strong and will (and did) rip belts out of my hands when I change them on the KMG. :( (Screen added to prevent further pulverizing of brand new belts :()
If it works well, I'll add a few more in strategic places that let me run a vacuum hose all throughout.

Just thought I'd share as this is an important fire hazard, especially if you mix wood dust and sparks. Which I don't myself, wood and metal are on separate extraction systems. But better safe than sorry.
