Found some older CS knives (+10yr)

Hi, new to the forum, and just starting to get back into collecting. I was a poor college student when I got these a long time ago. I was wondering if either of these is considered a collectible. Definitely not thinking of selling, but thought I would see what the overall feeling is on these knives.

Thanks!

Cold steel knives...
sorry, i don't think it's collectible...
But it would remind you your young time ! :D

The San Mai folder is called a Shinobu. One of the toughest CS folders made. It came out just before thumbstud and pocket clip days.

Of course they're collectible although they may not be particularly valuable.
There are plenty of Cold Steel collectors who would like to have these even on these forums where Cold Steel knives are a hotly debated subject.

The Push Dagger started out as the Terminator, later it became the Self Defender, then the Safe Keeper(the current less highly finished model). The two older versions, they're collectible, value's in the $75-100. :).

The push dagger has no markings other than Cold Steel Ventura, CA on the ruberized grip and Made in Japan on the blade (you can see in first picture) nothing else. Is this a Terminator or a Defender?

And Esav, thank you for the information on the Shinobu, it is funny to think about the lack of pocket clip and thumb-stud, because I do remember you are exactly right and that within the next couple of years you could hardly find a knife without one.

If the push dagger has the leather sheath, it's one of the two older models. It does have value, even as a user its a better sheath/steel combination than the current product.

Could be either, it doesn't make a huge difference. Cold Steel changed the names 10-12 yrs. ago.

yep, original leather sheath, never been used, factory edge...I freely admit I bought the knife for its looks at the time...I still think it is a good looking knife.

The Shinobu brings back happy memories. I EDC'd one for about 8 years until the chequering on the kraton handle started to smooth out. This felt rather good in an almost sensual way... Then one of the handle scales popped off. I super glued it back on and it seems rock solid even now years later, but it took the shine off and now I rotate lots of other folders.
Time to get it back in rotation, that puppy really cut! Say what you will about Cold Steel (and someone always does!) their early blades were rather good.

I have actually been on the lookout for one of the folders after an old timer showed me his,,

i think its pretty neat,,,but i am no knife snob,,,if it cuts well, i like it,,and his cut well and looked well made...

lucky you!

The Shinobu would sell very quickly if you did want to get rid of it. The collectibility will go up as CS quality continues to go down.

Heh, not thinking of selling...but I am surprised the folder is the one that is the most collectible. I see Cs now calls the Defender the Safekeeper II and it doesn't have the groove in the middle or the extra attention to the base of the blade.
