hey, RAZR owners...

does anyone have a problem with dust buildup under their screen? because there is a TON of it under mine, and it's irritating.

does anyone have a solution to this? is there a simple way to dissassemble the screen plate and wipe/blow the dust out?

thanks!

I would think that they designed it to be difficult to disassemble the screen. Most devices are tricky, although I've done it, I wouldn't try on these as they are too delicate. Best to send it in or bring in and see what they tell you. Seems like alot of dust could be a sign of a faulty cover or something. None of my devices, phones, pdas, etc have ever gotten that much dust under the screen. Even Nextel which is the worst I had of them all, only had a small amount visible.

Good luck with that.

Both my brothers have this phone, and both have a similar problem. We have not been able to come up with a solution yet, and I don’t think the warranty covered it...I could be mistaken on that one though.

If you find anything out, please post it here becuse it is a very annoying problem.

Thanks,
Billyp

i did some quick googling and researching on some razr "mod" forums, or whatever. there are people actually dedicated to hacking their cell phones and modifying it to do all kinds of crazy crap. who knew?

anyhow. here's the best solution i could find.

use a razorblade or a needle and peel the clear faceplate off or your screen. it's really easy to do-- i just did it. just stick the blade in between the place where it says "motorola" at the top, and pry it up. go slow and carefully, and careful not to damage the plastic screen or else it'll scratch and piss you off. good news is, if you do mess it up, replacement screens are like 3 bucks on the 'net.

ok so once you've got the plastic plate off, wipe it all off. make sure to get all the fingerprints and everything. then just stick the screen back on. it should stick--the adhesive will still be sticky enough.

good as new!

except that's just a temporary fix, and i'm not one for temporary fixes. some people say dust gets into the razr b/c of those fingernail notches at the top edges of the screen. see them? i just plugged those holes up with some clear epoxy. once it dries, i'll carry my phone around for a few days and see if any dust is still getting in there. if it works out i'll let you know.

good luck!

Those are airholes. Now your phone will run slower since you plugged them up. :D

i recently bought a razr and the salesman said not to get a black phone because they have dust issues like you mention, there is a slot/hole in the face that isnt on the silver razrs, IIRC he said they were eliminating this hole on all models ASAP.

everyphone will have dust inside of it. there is no way that a phone can be sealed up 100% except maybe those that are meant for rugged use. small dust particles can also get into the phone when you bump the phone around, for example in a pocket when you move, the phone gets bumped around and there is potential for dust to enter it.

i guess mafeya was right.

plugging those little holes doesn't help. i've been carrying my phone in my front jeans pocket, and after less than a day there's already some dust building up behind the screen. :-/

yes my SILVER razor has dust behind the screen like yours. the rubber nubs on the frame of the screen can be removed to reveal screws.

no phone can get dust free. to get better dust protection, get one of the anti-dust coating silicone covers.

Interesting . . . I've been using a silver RAZR since November and no dust accumulation . . . must vary from phone to phone.

Maybe you're in a real dusty environment?

My silver one has it.
The Cingluar guy gave me a number to call for repair.
He says they (Motorola) will send me a new phone, and a label to send my old one back.
Now I have to go back to get the number again, as it walked off my bench...
I'll post it later...
