Hey everybody,

we just had the dutch 2012 bladesports finale. Dutch knifemaker Toni Oostendorp took first place as well as the first place in the competition, well done.
I finished as second this season and as second in the finale.

I had a pretty good season where I took first place 2 times ou of 5 matches. So Toni and I were in a close race for first place.
I had a great shot at the title this year and I've been helped immensely by the 'cane toad' blade in cpm m4 from Jose Diaz. I'll be doing a review on it soon. For now it suffices to say that it's an awesome competition knife and suits me very well.
Thanks to Jose for sponsoring me and providing me with the opportunity to be competetive this season.

here's the finale movie: check it out

i'm at 2:20 and Toni is at 4:28

Nice job! Gongrats! I'm at work right now and can't watch the vid yet, but I'll check it out when I get home. :)
Glad to see the Cane Toad doing that well, especially since I went ahead and bought a "Pointy cane Toad" from Jose last year! haha...

Awesome knife, though I had to do some custom shaping to the rather blocky handle scales to make it more ergonomic for my hand. Have you modded yours to fit you better as well, or does it fit you well enough as is?

thanks bryfry :)
there is a pointy cane toad in the movie as well, it's used by Ed de Pauw, last year's dutch champion, he's right after me.
the rubber (is it horse mat?) can easily be shaped, but I find it suits my hand very well. The knife I used used to be Jose Diaz's competition knife in 2010-2011. He told me it was the heaviest knife in the competition which I personally like a lot. What weight is yours?

thanks bryfry :)
...What weight is yours?

I honestly don't know the weight... But I can say with confidence that it is definately the thickest chunk of blade steel that I own, and a heck of a lot beefier than my Crowell Barker competition knife! :)

Great job in the competition man! That looks like so much fun, haha.... Do you set up your own practice course at home?
...Looked like they were having some technical difficulties there with the ball release?

Dude..........a big guy like you lost to a skinny computer geek like Toni? For shame!!!!! :D What happened to Big Ed? He didn't look too happy toward the end.

Heavier than the 8mm Longstrider monstrosity? Wow!!
thanks bryfry :)

lol, I don't know what he does behind the computer but he has some strong right arm muscles :p Toni is just a very consistent cutter, pretty speedy and doesn't miss much. First place well deserved. I missed the tennis/golf balls... If I had taken them....:grumpy:
Ed didn't have a good run this match... He'll try again next year :) me 2.

THere was no 3d ball for one of the cutters, he got a 'recut' afterwards. He's using the benchmade competition knife by the way.
I try to do some practice at home sometimes and with some friends see this video:

I've cut with him a couple of times, he comes over to the netherlands sometimes. Now he's a big guy!

Zyhano,
Thanks for posting the videos! It's great to see BladeSports videos from outside the US. Congrats on you placements in the overall standings and the final competitions. It was fun to see so many of my knives in the competitions.

I'm glad you feel that my blade has helped you, but as can easily be said, the wielder of the tool is a big part of how someone does in competition.

Are you coming to the US to compete in the World Championship?

Hey Jose,

Yes, your knives are doing extremely well in the competition.

In my opinion (which is just that of course) they are highly superior to the production competition knives. I've seen and handled the benchmade one too but I greatly prefer yours. I cannot comment on the custom ones, but it seems at least some of them have some way to go.
Since I can't make a knife if my life depended on it, I cannot really say any more about other knifemakers' knives but the cane toad rocks big time!

When using other knives than yours my results were always less good. The weight, shape and profile just suit me very well. And of course, doing some training and working on my technique is also a good part of becoming better, but I'd be nowhere without a terrific knife.

I just sent you a mail too, let me know if you don't get it please.
