We just had our 2012 forum knives delivered; an old school styled Laguiole model, handmade by the French knifemaker Renaud Aubry.
High polished blade is Sandvik 12C27 stainless, hardened to 61HRC while the handle is ironwood on stainless liners with fileworked backspring.
Each knife is marked on the inside of the backspring with "MF 2012" and the number, in my case # 10.
We think Aubry did a good job,

Lovely. I don't cotton to filework on the spring myself, but that is no doubt a lovely knife.

VERY nice indeed! i like the shadow wood scales a lot, and file-work is a must on all French knives, part of their long tradition.

Yeah, I get it. It definitely fits the knife. Probably why I don't have any. It's just a weird thing I have. Got my daughter a Rough Rider with filed spring. I just don't dig it. I could probably make an exception for this particular knife, though. :)

Awesome!
I have a Laguiole on my short list of knives "to get", along with a Le Thiers from France, they're beautiful knives. Not many cutlers seem to make a smaller Laguiole though, the traditional size is larger than I like to carry in my pocket. Chambriard makes a small Le Thiers, I wonder if there is a cutler that does something similar with the Laguiole?

Cheers,
Griff

Wow-- that's really beautiful! I love all the small touches, most especially including the stamp inside the backspring. Very tastefully done.

Thanks for the great pictures.

How many polls did it take to decide on this one? ;)

I really like the ironwood scales on that knife. Excellent choice.

Nice knife! Great to see what our neighbors are doing!!

WOW! Nice traditional french pattern! Very nice!

Thank you for showing it. The woodscales are extremely nice!

Kind regards

In fact this was meant to be the signature of the worker. Each had his own, so each knife was recognizable at a glance. Still the case for the forges de Laguiole and a few others.
This particular one is splendid. I guess you still enjoy it 4 years later! :)
