I am new to the "other than a 5 dollar" knife world and am also looking for a folder to carry on-duty (LE). I am looking for a 4 inch, tanto folder that I can carry tip up in my left pocket.

Hopefully some of you knife experts can push me in the right direction.

Thanks,
George

Cold Steel makes Voyager folders in a range of sizes, including 4" blades, and in clip point or tanto, plain edge, serrated, or combo, all tip-up.

They also have a Gunsite folder which is a fancier 4" tanto Voyager with a combo edge.

I second the griptilian. Best lock out there, great ergonomics (on the big one), you can pick one up for probably 60 from Newgraham.com , though I personally recommend the D2 Griptilian from Cabela's. The only differences are that it has a black blade (I don't care) and D2 steel, which just holds an edge better. I'm not sure if you can get the Cabela's in tanto though.

I also really like the M16 line from CRKT. It is one of the fastest non auto knives I've ever used, really well priced, very light, good ergonomics. Uses reasonably good steel (AUS8).

They come in half a dozen different versions if you don't particularly like the look of this one.

Also take a glance at the SOG Vision series of tantos. Never used one, but they look interesting and are in your price range.

Hey Governor. Welcome to the forums!

For a little over $100, you can get an Emerson. Can't go wrong -- tough-as-nails, great blade steel, etc. Check out a CQC-7. Tanto, tip-up carry, WAVE system (check out www.emersonknives.com for details. Essentially, it's a little tab on the spine of the blade that allows you to pull the knife from your pocket in such a way that it deploys instantly. Faster than an auto, and much safer IMO.). You can't go wrong with an Emerson. They're excellent tools, and if you should need to grab your knife quickly in an emergency/life-saving situation, the WAVE system is the way to go.

Look on www.froogle.com to find the best deal.

Peace.

I like Voyagers, but they don't have reverseable pocket clips. That would make left pocket carry a problem

You can't go wrong with a Griptilian.
