As the proto was damaged in the hole when throwing,We got much ideas to change the lightening mothod,as I posted in the early thread.I'm not insisting knife throwing,I just want to strong the knife without increasing the weight, and keep the gravity center there. To make my design more wise.

Now step by step:

IMG_0761.jpg

The proto knife broken at the first rivet hole. there's the weakest area of the knife.so the changes in the new design :

gravity.jpg

A)New lightening (Was it used by other makers before? Could I name it G.E.style lightening? )
The proto knife handle was lightened uniformly. for the new design, we lighten the handle differentially:
No lightening around the first rivet;gradual lightening from 10mm after the first rivet to the middle one, with H-section(Ball end milled)

Skeleton between the middle rivet and the rear one.

B)Chamfer everywhere we need no edge,as we can see in the upper pics.
After stonewashed:

Yes, there's a small piece beside the blade, it's the lightened area between the second and rear rivet. It will be a dogtag goes together with the knife.

C) egg shaped handle
I like it very much, it feel much more better in hand.We can't resist a comfortable handle.
It's not a High-Tech,but need to do.

That's also why the top of the micarta scale is not at the center of the handle. But that makes this knife feel amazing.

EGGSHAPE3.jpg

Sorry, we can't photo out the exact shape of the handle's cross profile, because it changes follow the profile variation of the handle from front to rear,Unless we cut it.But you can feel it easily.

D)Handle grooves. Maybe it's a very personal liking.

20140508_182210.jpg

it could be cleaned easily, and feels good.No groove handled are available too.

E)High frequency part annealed handle
To make the knife more hard to be broken.I part annealed the handle at the first rivet this time.
I think it's not very needed.
Sorry for the horrible photo.

Now,It's ready. My second knife after Sunshine neck knife, my Duty/Ben.

The shape, What I am insisting that should be beautiful after comfortable.

Let's see how the gravity center changed.

GRAVITY.jpg

Friends,I'm very happy. It seems my effort is worth it.My Duty became more comfortable in hand, more beautiful in eyes, more stronger in use. less in weight increasement(less than 4g).almost no change with the gravity center. That's what I want.

Thanks for looking!

That's fantastic work and a wonderful thread! Thank you very much for sharing!

Congratulations!!! Beautiful knife and great dedication to the quality of your work.
Thank you for sharing

Stefano

OK, now you are learning ! I don't think the annealing does anything for you. Hard to control for time and temperature .The 'triangle ' I would cut right through .Easier to machine that way and the 'web' doesn't do anything for you . One important thing about an oval or egg shape handle is indexing. .You can feel where the edge is without looking.
Keep going !!

This is the really amazing example of very well done job. I like it. I hope that we will see another great ones.
