Can anyone point me toward a DVD copy making program?

I have Sonic's Record Now Plus, but when I went to make a copy of a DVD (don't worry, I own the original), it puked it back out saying it couldn't make a copy because it was encrypted or some such...

I frankly don't have much computer savvy, so I'm looking for a program which will allow me to make an exact duplicate of DVDs without much (or, preferably any) hassle.

Suggestions?

Sounds like you have a Sony Vaio with a DVD burner, like me.

I use DVD Shrink and it works great. It's freeware, too. DVD Decrypter is something I have just in case DVD Shrink has troubles but this has not happened for me so far. It's freeware, too.

Search on google and you'll find both of them.

I'm also using DVD Shrink and have burned copies of about 40 movies without one problem. I started out using Nero and had problems every other disc. DVD Shrink is the way to go!

You need Nero installed to use DVD Shrink, as shrink uses some components from Nero.

Very good software, even though it's slow as hell.

As your original is copy protected you need to use something like DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com/) to rip the DVD to disk first, or DVD43 (http://www.dvd43.com/) so that your machine thinks there is no protection,

Yeah, as said, you can then use DVD Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org) (which I understand can be used without Nero, but I can't find the info. at the mo'), or Nero Recode (http://www.nero.com).

This is just one method, many more options can be found at http://www.doom9.org/dvd-basics.htm

If you want to use DVDShrink without NERO you can set it up to use DVD Decrypter to burn with. I use this quite a bit myself and it works flawlessly.

Check out the guides section of the forum at dvddecypter.com

Thanks for the replies.

I downloaded DVD Shrink, and it worked like a charm.

What I use DVD shrink for, it to re-author my DVD's for the kids. I trim out all the extras, directors comments, alternate languages/subtitles, and just keep the raw movie intact.

For example, for my youngest kid. I will do this to let's say Shark Tale. This way all she has to do is pop the DVD in the player and it will play by itself. No options to play movie, select chapters or junk will come up. Less "daddy intervention" if they want to watch a movie and more "didn't have to bother daddy" time for me. :D
