Hey Guys, Had a friend from the UK send me a new DVD about touring the back roads of Great Britain. Sat down to watch it and the TV/DVD Player Shows a "Redion Error Code". Great.

Did a quick search and found some long info on how to "Change" your Region on your computer (in order to watch just such a DVD I suppose). I may resort to that but before I do,....

Are there any other tricks to try in order to watch the bloody thing on a regular (aka Old) Dvd Player hooked up to the Tellie?

By the way, in addition to being an Anglophoile I'm a Hillibilly so type slowly when you repspond as I can't read too fast... :D

Thanks

Most computers and players only allow one to reset the region code a limited number of times.

Some players and computers allow being set to region "0", to play DVD's from all regions. Can yours?

Also, there are places that can record DVDs from one region to a DVD disc for another region.

You can also buy a "region-free" DVD player. From a lot of what I've heard, it seems that many of the cheaper (like in the $30-$40 at WalMart range) DVD players are actually region free, while their more expensive, name-brand counterparts are not.

You can google your exact model in relation to changing the region code. Some players, new and old have an unpublished or unadvertised kind of back door for changing it. Instructions could potentially be found out there. However, you then may run into the problem of PAL vs. NTSC format. Those are the framerate(i think) formats of British and North American T.V. respectively. If the DVD player or the TV does not have a built in conversion of one format to the other, then you're screwed...again.

Being a huge Anglophile myself, as well as just worldwide interests, i have numerous DVD's from all sorts of regions. I found it most helpful(in fact...indispensable) to get a good DVD player for someone with my tastes. There are lots of options out there for this. Just make sure you get one that has both region free capability as well as NTSC/PAL conversion. I cannot suggest OPPO strongly enough. Model 981.

Hope i helped a bit.

Download a piece of software called VLC Media Player. It completely ignores region codes, and will allow you to watch just about any type of media file on your computer.

easy fixed. A lot of DVD players are sold region specific but clearly the makers let the information out to make them non region specific

I had the same issue - have addressed it for several DVD players

Just google region hack and your DVD model number any you will rapidly find the "hack" for your player. They are just software settings that are easily changed

It is very simple like - switch on while holding the pause key for 2 seconds then enter 342 on the remote then switch off. When switch back on will play all DVD's

Not sure if this works, because it's usually hard coded to DVD player... Well..

I use the program "DVD region+CSS free" that automatically starts and bypasses the region check when I put DVD in. It has worked really nicely, but It's commercial software however.

I've searched but haven't been able to find any codes for the Sony DVP-NS700H.

(The manual does state that aside from Region 1 it plays commercial discs coded for "All Regions".)

If anyone has any info, please feel free to PM or email me. Thanks.
