Hey Guys....

First off,, let me start off by saying that I absolutely love war series shows..
M*A*S*H, Tour of Duty, China Beach were all Excellent shows...

Over There, as far as I'm concerned was Exceptionally done, and would suggest anyone liking this type of show go out and get the 4 DVD set..

Now a question..

Is these series all done,, or is it still a running series??

It sounds like it only ran for one season..If so that would be a shame...

Anyone love the show as I do ??

ttyle

Eric...

Hi All-

I've been scouring the television guides looking for when Over There will return to the air for a new season on the FX channel. Everyone whom I know who has seen it, loved it.

To me they were like the lost squad, unhappy to be there, separated from the army in general, a couple of female truck drivers getting into a lot of combat, a violent , bad ass, gang member that some how had no record keeping him out of the military, an intelligent (PFC?) that spoke the local language, yet was still with a sad sack infantry squad.

A lot of us were glad to see it canceled because we saw it as anti American, and anti military.

Hi braddy-

I saw it as a dedicated sergeant who was very concerned about troops under his command who always strived "to do the right thing" in the many crazy scenarios experienced in a warzone.

The idea that a white Cornell graduate was fighting alongside his fellow black soldiers illustrated that our all-volunteer forces aren't just over there because there are no economic opportunities at home. All sorts of people don military uniforms in service to their country.

The cheating spouses, fraternization, and rate of alcoholism might have been a little bit over-the-top, but I suppose they had to make it "dramatic" enough to attract a non-military audience somehow. The kid recovering from the missing leg was inspirational.

I forgot about the female that went AWOL, trades sex for papers etc.

The Sargent was a good character.

If my memory is right the soldiers actually fighting the war didn't like the series.

I forgot that blacks were overrepresented in the squad, in reality the great majority of killed are white, black numbers are very, very much lower than their actual numbers in the army, because they choose largely non combat units, and their enlistment numbers fell off dramatically after 911.

When I saw the episode where the Sqd leader talks to a General with disrespect, I knew the show was full of BS and was turned off by it. And where the hell is the rest of the platoon? As a soldier, the show sucks!

Hi StevenKim-

The episode you saw is because the higher ranking officer (can't remember if he was a general or not...) was a murderous sociopath who didn't even care about the safety of American soldiers. It specifically illustrated how even the "little guy" has to fight for the rights of the men and women under his command. It showed how honorable and decent NCO personnel can also shape warfare, not just colonels and generals.
