Is there any commercial products you can buy to dye a blade black, or grey or any dark colour

whish you could buy TiCN and self apply it hehe

byt mostly just want to do this for looks so wonder is anyone knows of anything sutable i can buy

obviously nothing that can damage the blade or is too thick that could cause clearance issues

how about filling out your profille so we know a little more about you? as far as dye, there is none, the only thing out there is bluing for guns which works on carbon steel knives also.

thanks may do that at some point, if i applied a few layers would it get close to black ?

get birchwood casey permablue paste. i use that and have had good results. there might be something better by now but i dont know. make sure you clean the blade with denatured alcahol to remove any grease or oil's. you can get small ammounts at drug stores but you might check a hardware store. dont put anything but mineral oil on the blade. wd 40 or anything that prevents rust or cleans rust will remove bluing. after a few months the bluing will be set and wont be hurt by using a good gun oil.

I have not tried it because I don't care for dark blades, but this company,

http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/black.htm

sells black oxide kits that would be suitable for DIY. They have one kit for stainless steel and another for non-stainless.

Somebody around here on the boards has used the stuff. Can't remember who. He seemed to have had good results, though.

WD 40 won't remove the bluing, but the bluing will come off on it's own.
