Recently picked up an NMSFNO. Been really wanting one for some time and had a tough time deciding on a color/finish. I absolutley love this knife. No need to convex it yet as I usally do right away, seems very sharp. Chops well and feels great in the hand. Makes me want to go on a wilderness adventure. The Green matches my B11, but the Tan micarta was a little light for my tastes. Taking a tip from Rainwalker, I applied some Fiebing's light brown professional oil dye, acquired from a leather shop. I'm happy with the results.
It allso came with a Buy Brown sheath and I like it very much, my second one now. Hoping to get my own Kydex bending up to his quality.

Nice.

I have used brown shoe polish as well. Darkens it to a dark brown, and stays on for a while, but not permanent.

That looks great.

Thanks, I had tried that as well on my RatmanDu, and it lightened up. Well see how this holds up.

Is the Fiebings permanent? How did you dye the handles? Did you just dip it in the dye? How much dye did you use?

I'd love to know because if this works, I'm going to buy a lot of that dye.

Should be permanent, we will see....I used a 6 inch cotton tip applicator. The wooden stick end allso worked well for minute detail application neer the edges. The dye will stain the paint but alcohol cleans it up fairly well. Tried Painters masking tape when doing my RatManDu but it bled under and was a pain to apply in detail.

A small brush works well in those small areas, just be careful not to overload it as you'll get a big blotch.

The handles I've dyed have been very colorfast, I've turned some brown and some black. The "Pro Oil" dye works wonderfully as it seems to penetrate deeper because it doesn't dry as fast.

does anyone have experience with the fiebing's alcohol based dye?

I ordered it by accident and was wondering if it would work.

Yes, not as good, but it will work. A couple of coats may be necessary wiping the handle down in between to remove the powdery residue left behind. If you have any mineral oil (baby oil will do if you dont mind the baby smell) ;) a thin coat will help the dye penetrate deeper.

I dyed the BWM I didn't sell.

It's got a jungle green blade and now it has black handles.

It looks incredible and I love it. The dye has great adhesion (a little bit too much as it dyed some of the blade. But it's very pleasing aesthetically and it is a dream to use like all BWMs.

Thanks for the great tips, dying it myself saved me a lot of money.
