Dyed my Box Elder inlays (inspired by Bark River)

So after drooling over all the great box elder (maple) inlay colour options available from Bark River, I figured I would try dyeing the box-elder scales of my small 21. Some of you might hate this, which is fair, the scales were beautiful to begin with. I just wanted to try something different and make the knife more my own. I used blue and dark red dyes, and concentrated on rubbing them into only the back-half of the scales for a faded effect. The change is subtle, but I like it. So far this has proven to be a permanent change, and the dye has not come off in my pocket, or during use. Here's some pics (not much different, just a bit). I like the effect. They are a little darker looking, and sort of look like stone to me.

Interesting. I was not aware that you could dye stabilized wood. Started to do some searching and found this BF thread from 2012. Anyway ... nice effect you gave to the Box Elder. Thanks for sharing that. I would have never known it was possible.

Reminds me of the set of mnandis CRK did a while back - black dyed ambonya. I've always wanted one.. But have yet to see one surface anywhere over the years..

Looks amazing, have any before and after shots?

+1

Almost the same exact words I used when I posted up my plain jane with polished scale, lol. I think the dyed inlays look awesome! Nice work
