Sanded with 60 grit to knock off the rough edges.

Poured RED Rit dye into sauce pan. Added a smidgen of BROWN Rit dye into the red.

Salted the dye and put on simmer on gas stove.

Dropped in bk10 micarta, stirred and simmered about 10 minutes.

Poured into bowl. Made sure the micarta was covered by the dye.

Tasted.

Let set 12 hours. Pulled out, set 8 hrs (or till dry).

Washed micarta in cold water. Dried it off.

Applied Formby's tongue oil. Set another 8 hrs.

Applied to bk10.

Nice work, Revenuer. I may have to do the same to my BK-10. I like the factory micarta, but it looks too pale for the stripped Crewman. That reddish brown looks good.

It came out really nice. Its got a better look than my bk11 dyed micarta.

I used a diff recipe on the bk11 micarta. I'm perfecting the dying process slowly.

Wait... did anyone else notice that in that list of steps... he TASTED the dye?

Am I the only one that thinks this is weird?

The scales look great, I just hope that stuff isn't toxic :p.

I was wondering if anyone was gonna catch it. I think most folks look at the pretty pics and skim. I know I do sometimes.

Nice, I do that all the time at work and on school projects. I usually do it for the added humor it provides me at the time of writing. It usually gets edited out... The times it doesn't make for interesting moments during presentations though :).

I tend to read everything though. Must be something wrong with me :(.

:p.

im getting set to do the same thing, but more oxblood color
complete newb question, what does the formby's do? is it a surface sealer to make it shiny, or another purpose?

It seals it. Helps to keep it from fading etc. You don't have to use tongue oil. There's diff sealants out there. Its just what I picked and it works.

Tongue oil? Or tung oil? Is that what you meant by tasting it?

I'm getting this image of you licking the handle to seal it... :D

that's a good dye job

now, if i could find a good skin job, they'd call me a blade runner

Have you seen the Final Cut? Supposedly Ridley Scott now has Batty saying "I want more life father" instead of "I want more life f'er" to Tyrell. Lame, lame, lame. And screws us the reference in "More Human than Human" by White Zombie. Geez.

Awesome dye job BTW.
