Hello all , I wanted to get your opinion on dyed wood.
I may represent a small percentage of folks, but in my opinion only, I'm not
too partial about Dyed wood.Unless its low figured wood that is dyed to make the wood look more desireable. I would purchase some synthetics instead.
I have a few dyed blocks of some maple, however, I feel it takes away
from the organic look of a block or scales. Remember ,this is only my
opinion.
For those of you who do like dyed wood ,do you find it sells better?
I know stabilized wood is not exactly organic but it still retains
It's natural figure. I know it's all personal preference , I just wanted to hear
your opinion on the matter.-Thank you-Mark:)

Often stabilized wood is dyed too.. I find it really adds to the wood in some cases, especially with highly figured woods like maple. Look at PRS guitars for example, especially their private stock. It certainly looks great natural as well.. but sometimes a little color helps. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :) I couldn't say which sells better.. but I buy both kinds, just depends on the mood that strikes me when I'm making something.

I like dyed maple, especially black, gray and dark blue.
I don't know if it sells better,it's all in what catches the eye of the customer.

I know my thread is purely subjective. I was just wondering and wanted to hear some introspective comments. Thanks for
responding ,so far,ya'll. I have some black dyed curly maple and a couple that are some shade of pink ( if you can picture
that.lol) given to me. I need to give some other colors a chance on some higher end wood.

while in most cases I do prefer my stabilized wood to be au natural, I have a weakness for black and red double dyed box elder burl. these 4 blocks came up for sale a while ago here and I couldnt say no. I scooped all four. along with a couple other un dyed blocks. As mr Buzek said it's all in what catches my eye.

I prefer undyed, but I think certain colors lend themselves to my tastes when used as dyes. The red blocks that the_cutting_edge showed look just fine to me. But while the blue wood looks great on the guitar I would find it unsettling if used on a knife handle.

What we need to remember is that the grips we are making are usually for customers. Therefore, our tastes matter little. After a career in gemstones including cut stones and carved jadeite along with making grips for guns and now, knives, I can say that people have an amazing range of tastes. Some things I cut simply because I am out of something better are often the first things to sell. Go figure. I must say that some dyed materials I really love like the double dyed box elder. In fact, one of the colors I like best is pearl and black which basically gives the real colors a standout effect. But sometimes green or blue maple sales just go nuts. I make more then they might stay around forever. Variety is helpful in sales.
