dying maple

I've just put on some quilted maple (kiln dried- not stabilized) handles onto a big Persian knife of mine. I used mosiac pins an epoxied the slabs on. I'm now wondering if I should do something "fancier" with the finish. I was going to just use Tung or Watco oil, but I just saw some neat examples of dyed quilted maple on the net. Anyone have any suggestions on how to do this (ie., what kind of dye, etc.)?

Thanks...

Hey Kumdo

Get some aquafortis or
mountain state stock stain in
antique brown or mahogany.
It`ll run about $3.00 a
bottle ? at Mountain State Muzzleloading
Supplies
;)

Or you could go with a darker watco and reapply till you get the shade desired. It is easy, and a lot of maker do it that way.

Thanks guys. I ended up just going with a Watco Fruitwood oil- it's currently soaking up the 3rd coat. Looking good!
