So I'v been wanting a 301 for a while but the money just hasn't been there. I went to look at some of them on ebay today and it seems alot of the newer ones have these dymondwood scales instead of the stuff the scales used to be made of. I liked the black color and the look of the scales and I don't like this dymondwood nearly as much. Is this going to be what they make them with now or will they make them with the black scales again?

As far as I know, black derlyn/plastic scales are still going to be available and are readily avialable at online knife stores. I havent looked but am suprised that standard arent on the bay. Sould be BU301-I just looked and there are some on the bay-good luck in finding one cheap. I havent seen any NIB at a "good" price.

I found four of them on the bay with BIN prices of $33 to $36 delivered. That's about the same as two online dealers that I buy from.

Buck has both 301's on their website. The dymondwood one is $4 more than the black plastic one.

I got the charcoal dymondwood 301 from Buck last week and I really like it. Mine has is lighter in color than the one pictured and it came with a brown leather sheath, which I thought was a nice touch.

So, Buck is still making them with the black scales. They also make one that is the "Chariman Series" with cherry dymondwood and that cost the same as the charcoal dymondwood, but it has no sheath. I saw the yellow handle 300's posted in a thread, but I don't see them on the web site. So, I think you can buy pretty much what you want.

"Old" sawcut black scaled 'Valox' 300 series are standard. Dymondwood series are changing with 2010 catalog to the 'Comfortcraft' edge shaping, like the Chairman Cherrywood series and the new yellow 'Delrin' scale 300s. All will eventually be available. Yellow is trickling down the pipeline and will be available everywhere shortly.

Only the standard production sawcut black scales will keep the squared edge features. The limited edition Boone and Crockett in Paperstone scale is also square edged.

You wanted some colors so you are getting them. 300Bucks

PS One of the extras of being a BCCI member is getting your new issue knives you order from Larry Oden usually before most dealers. You also get a discount, so think about it.
