Does anyone have one of these? My wife is quite interested in getting one, we've been through about two other kinds thanks to our dog.

I'm wondering if these are really worth the price tag, do they really last that long and keep functioning? Is it gonna clog in any way and get useless on me?

Thanks for thoughts folks!

Its a good vacuum. We bought a reconditioned one and, after the first usage, it pulled up enough dirt and hair and such to more than fill a normal vacuum bag. My lady filled and emptied the container 3 or 4 times, stunned me.

If you have loose rugs, the dyson will actually pick them up because of the amount of suction and make this horrendous clacking noise. From reading on the web, the noise is actually the clutch engaging to keep the motor and belt from being damaged. It is obscene but apparently designed to keep the cleaner running.

One other thing, if your dog has long hair the roller brush thingamajig will eventually get wrapped up with hair and not spin or work as efficiently. Every few weeks I end up flipping the thing over and spending some time cutting the hair loose with a knife and scissors. Not a big deal though.

My Mrs. has had one for years now. The version developed to deal with pet hair ...

She loves it. Works right every time and maintains its suction.

It's definitely a beast. This place would be unlivable without it.

Well, we didn't quite have the extra scrap to pick up the animal version, so we got the plain DC14 all floor ( http://www.dyson.com/store/product.asp?product=DC14-ALLFLOORS_US ).

We had a pretty big gift card after returning lots of goofy crap from our wedding, so we ended up paying only ~$60 out of pocket! Great.

We got it home, popped it together, and started cleaning some carpet. Sucked up a lot of junk! Actually quite quiet, and very powerful. It's gratifying to really see what you're picking up.

I'm sure time will tell, but it seems like a good investment so far. I've always really hated traditional vacuums.

We had an Electrolux and Meile before we bought a Dyson. The Dyson outperforms them both. It's actually pretty impressive.

We have the "Animal" model and its hands down the best vacuum we've owned. It was pricey, but a Christmas present for my wife. Yeah, I know, what wife wants a vacuum? She liked it, though -- wanted one and wouldn't spend that much on a vacuum for herself.

Had one that just crapped out 2 months after warranty was up -- this week in fact.

My brother's only lasted 3 years and the motor burned out.

Not worth the $$ in my opinion. Bought a highly rated Hoover today at half the price and it appears to work just as good if not better -- has better ergonomics and is quieter.

Over rated in my opinion.

We have a Dyson. Nothing not to like about it. It works. Its powerful. And you can see how much cr*p you have vacuumed up, and don't have to buy bags for it. Go for it.

I'll +1 roughedges review. We are absolutely thrilled with ours:thumbup: Does an incredible job, but we have a golden retriever and I also end up spending some time cutting hair out of the roller brush. Also agree that it's not a deal breaker by any stretch. Soon after we got ours a few years ago, they came out with a model especially for homes with pets, so if you have animals I'd look into that one.

We got one of the new ball models this past summer. This thing is incredible. You wont believe how much stuff it picks up. Would you believe the house even smells better after we use it? We love it so far, hopefully we wont have the longevity issue that someone above mentioned. Of course it comes with a 5 year warranty, so if it lasted 5 years I would still probably be satisfied.

We've got an "Animal" and it works well. Like someone above said, if you have loose rugs it might pull them up but we only have had that problem on the very lightest rug runners, not on larger area rugs. I am not convinced it works substantially better than the one we had before but it does work well.

Its heavy and loud and expensive, but it works.

As an added comment. You should look into the Miele line of vaccums before purchasing a Dyson. They perform at a very high standard if you have allergy sufferers or pets.

Bought the DC-17 animal about 2-3 months ago. Works great and no complaints thus far. And most importantly... WIFE is happy!

I think its the only vacuum that you can actually give as a present... I dunno if I'll ever have the balls to try it.

I have the little hand held one for my studio. It works great! I've had it for close to two years... it sucks like my--nevermind.

Used to frequent a vacuum shop owner/repairman quite often who carried many different brands (pre Dyson) and he loved these German(?) Mieles.

He said the Oreck's, Hoovers, etc., and most others were well marketed junk in comparison. :)

I have a dyson, and it is the only thing that can keep up with my dog's shedding (see avatar for the picture of Bear the great pyrenees fur based life form) Had it for a few years now, nothing broken, and it stillworks as well as the day I bought it.

We debated for a while and ended up going ahead and purchasing one. We chose not to get the "animal" version as after much research realized that it was just a version of the 17 and all of the parts were the same except for the handheld roller attachment that can go on the hose. You can purchase that seperatly. Our dog doesn't shed to badly and I think we saved some money with no real drop in performance by just getting the base 17 model. YMMV

So far it has done great. One warning however. After living in rental apt & houses for the last few years just be ready to empty the canister OFTEN as it will literally pull up cheap carpet pile and thin it out some what prematurely. Since it doesn't have a manual height adjustment the beater bar can prematurely wear cheap carpet. We have had to do our normal vacuuming without the beater bar running and then once a month go over everything with it on t help slow down wear. Again YMMV

mine sucks..... up everything in sight.... had it for 3 years now and shows no sign of quitting....
