I use a minimag w/nextel bulb daily at work in early A.M. hours.Seeing as the eyes aren't getting better as I get older, was wondering if those that use them think they are worth the bucks?

Yes!!!

Not only powerful, but absolutely perfect focusing: it looks like a professional movie quality spotlight, a perfect light circle.
The only concern might be the battery consumption but this depends on the particular use that you plan to do with it.

But: is it worth the $$? YES!

Love my minimag, had it for about 15 years. Its got my to and from my treestands hundreds of times, canoed the Yukon river with it and been in a ton of house fires with it....but.Lights like the E2 are in another class:) .

What kept me from lights like this was the high price of the batteries,$8 each at the local store, then I found them for $3.50 at BJ's,than $2 on the net,now I own a few.

For working on something around the house ect.the minimag is fine. For looking for a child who wandered off at night,or tracking a deer that got shot at dusk,or lighting up that bump in the night,a break down on the side of the road, well when you really need a light you'll be glad you spent the money.

Trust me you may carry this light for years and never really "need" all its light but the one time you do you'll be glad you spent the money.

thanks for replies.I use and rely on minimag a lot.Think I'll definetly spend the bucks for a quality tool.I've done some searches but can't come close to $2.00 ea. for batteries? One more question as I carry flashlight on belt daily and work around lots of water, would hard anodized be better choice? disregard... made my purchases thankss

The E2 is definitely worth the money. I just picked up my 2nd one from Extreme Outfitters. It has the black finish, yes black.

Best light I have ever owned (my Scorpion is a close second). Had 2 but gave one to my Best Man. Need another in Gun Metal.

The E2 is worth the money without question. Whether or not the E2 is a wise investment for you is another question entirely. The E2 does provide blindingly bright light for 90 minutes. But when that 90 minutes is up, you're looking at a minimum of $5 to replace the batteries. You say you use your light daily ... if you use it for 90 minutes each day, you'll be spending a minimum of $25 a week, or >$100 per month, on batteries, which means the purchase cost of an E2 is nothing compared to its running cost. Still sound attractive? On the other hand, if you use your light for only 10 minutes a day, then the economics of the E2 look much more attractive. The E2 is unparalleled as the choice for an ultrasmall, ultrabright light where the economics of 90 minute runtimes are acceptable.

If the E2 is too expensive for you to run, there are some ~30 lumen lights with longer runtimes that you might consider. They won't have the beam quality or brightness of the E2, but they'll be less expensive to run.

Note that there's been talk of a lamp for the E2 with longer runtime ... I'm guessing a 30 lumen lamp with 3+ hours runtime, or something like that. If that bulb comes out, it's a nice choice for more frequent use. Plus you'll get that great Surefire beam quality.

Joe,
Re: E2 runtimes.
The stated runtime for the E1 is 90 minutes; for the E2 it's 75 minutes with four times the output of the E1 (15 lumens vs 60 lumens). Those are the numbers using Duracell Ultra DL123A's. I've gotten slightly better runtimes (82 minutes) from the E2 using the new SureFire SF123A's. Just want to make sure he's got the correct specs before he goes to put his money down.

Toast,I just got a bunch of duracell 123a 3 volt batteries from www.botach.com they cost $2.50 each less %15 off sale. They may not be listed on the site but if you call them they have them.

I just bought a NightBuster 4X Ledda as a replacement for my mini-mag and it might fit the bill. It's much brighter, runs on 3 AA's, and the battery life is supposed to be 20 hours, and it's only $35. Anyone else have experience with this light?
