E-Bay scam

Are you saying this is a fake Ruana, or is he smoking crack for wanting that much money?

Don't know much about Ruana knives, but obviously he's smoking crack or just a plain idiot.

Yeah I say hes smoking crack. I think it's overpriced, regardless of "rarity" or "the last knife made", I dont think Ruana's are commanding that type of price ( though I may be wrong and am open to information ). Second and most obviously, Rudy made alot more than 9 knives in his life. He was ( is ) one of the legends of knifmaking. As far as being genuine, I know very little about that aspect of his knives. -- Charles

Ruana started making knives in the twenties or thirties and has made thousands of knives and passed away in 1986. The knife looks like a true Ruana. The guys facts are all screwed up. The knife may be worth 1,000.00 -$1,500.00 if that.I would also question whether the knife won best of show in 1977.Maybe it's just me, but I hate it when people misrepresent stuff on e bay.

Rudy Ruana made knives until 1983 and died in 1986. I don't have any info on the # of knives he made, but he worked in the same shop in Bonner, Montana for 45 years before turning over the operation to one of his sons-in law, Vic Hangas, who still makes Ruana Knives. Vic figures he made over 30,000 knives with Rudy from 1964 to 1983.:) I don't know a lot about his particular style, but all of the Ruana knives I've seen were hollow ground or flat ground. From the pictures, the one on ebay looks convex ground. I also hate it when people misrepresent things on ebay, or anywhere else. At least the guy has had no bids.

I am disgusted by that Auction!! I spent several months researching and writing an Article on Rudy and his knives which was published in this months (Nov) edition of Knife World. Based on the details in the pic that I see the knife appears to be genuine, I have several that are very similiar, but I could not say for sure unless I have personally examined it. I can not believe that any knowledgable collector would ever consider buying from the clown that is listing this. However, there are probably some unsuspecting people who may. This type of Auction should be used as an example to all collectors to do your homework about not only the item in question but about the seller as well. I have written to this idiot to set him straight and have reported him to the Ebay "Big Brother" network (hope this stops someone from making a big mistake).

** If anyone has any questions about Ruana knives please feel free to email me. I don't know everything about Rudy or his knives but I'll be glad to discuss them with you.

I would..., ;)...depending on what the knife was, and how much authentic provenencial information was available...

I'm guessing there aren't many high-end purveyors that bother with eBay.., so not having a bunch of feedback is far secondary to what information can be provided the buyer that is authenticated. I would be suspicious of most people with any amount of feedback (unless I knew them), that were selling knives/swords for $10K on eBay. If the piece is rare and desirable enough to bring that sort of money, eBay is simply a dumb place to attempt the sale anyway.

And yes.., this guy definitely hits the crack pipe....and often....lol

I'm with trailboss, anyone who hands over a $100 much less $1000 to a seller with one feedback should only be surprised if they have a successful transaction. It's a huge risk.

hell i have a 12 perfect record buyer that haven't pay up for 6 days so far.
Tomorrow I'll ruin someone's rep on ebay real good.

That knife is in the $900-1100 range. Ruana never spent time making knives in California. The San Fran thing is a joke also, I love Ruana's but they would of been plain by even 1970's standards.

There is a great 20B-5 M stamp on Ebay right now though.

I'd venture a guess and say that the stuff he is selling is stolen. Anyone who paid 20k for a knife that won best in show in 1977 (note that acoording to the seller he only made knives from 1980-89 so the knife wouldnt have even been made yet) and knows next to nothing about it is a damn fool. The odd variety of stuff he is selling, and the extremely high prices lead me to belive that this stuff fell off the back of a truck somewhere and he just happened to find it. WHile I dont know why you'd steal a teddy bear, I wouldnt put it past this guy.

Also, check out the grandaughter in the fox chubby auction. Looks more like a MAN BABY!!

I wanna watch this stuff to see if anyone is careless enough to bid.

Well, somebody bit ----> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=28009&item=3541389980

DANG!!!

Put the crack pipe down and back away slowly.

Just look at the item that he sold to get that 1 feedback. A New Orleans poster for $2000? I thought the guy on gunbroker that was selling run of the mill guns for almost twice the price was bad. This guy has him beat down.

jazzfest posters garner big bucks, man...That knife is a different story.

I am planning on bidding in that range for a knife auction staring 11/10/2003 -- the seller has a rating of "0" and I don't think 10k stands a chance on it.

wtc knife auction

I'm in good company here on this forum. Mr. Roberts, that was fine article.

And that auction is a joke.
