Hi guys, new to the forum so first and foremost hi!

I've been hovering silently through the forums for a few months now before I finally joined; reading up on axes, hatchets, and such. I've acquired myself a few, including a G&B, a wetterlings, a few legitimus collins, and the E & S I bring up in question.........

So I acquired this from my father, who got it from his father, who got it from his father. It wasn't in the best of condition, but it has a nice edge and shine on it now.

I'm trying to find a good handle for it, but the eye size is giving me some trouble. It's 3/4 by 2 25/64. Anyone ever run into this size eye before?

That looks like a pretty standard eye size to me; of course, the eye is tapered, teardropped, and not exactly made with machine-tool precision, so there will be a wide variance in measurements.

House Handle 1628, 1628S, 1630, 1632, 1636 should all fit... or 820FX if you want to put it on a 20" handle.

I have a Collins Homesteader 4 lb. single-bit on one of those House handles and I still had to shave it (and the included wedge) down slightly to get it to fit.

Some hardware store handles may fit; I've read others here prefer to take their axe head to the store with them to try-fit before buying. I don't have that option so usually purchase from House Handle. I've never had one arrive too-small from House. They've always needed some shaving to fit... which I'm sure you'd find preferable, for a custom fit!

I definitely don't mind tweaking the fit once I've found the right handle, thanks for the suggestions. It did have a shorter handle on it, but was beyond salvageable. I think I'll go with the 1628 to keep it close to what length it was before.

Well Im glad you got an answer already. I just wanted to chime , in and say nice emerson and stevens! It looks like its been well cared for over the years
