I recently acquired a E. T. ALLEN hatchet. It is in very good condition and is marked "CAST STEEL" and under that is "E. T. ALLEN S F". I have not been able to find any information on this hatchet and would like to know what it is worth and where to research it. I have found some E. T. ALLEN new price guides from 1890 & 93 but that is all.
Thanks for any help.

E.T. Allen was evidently a San Francisco-based firearms and sporting goods retailer and wholesaler in the late 1800s (until 1899).

From the first article I would conclude that your hatchet was re-branded by E.T. Allen but manufactured by one of the large east coast axe makers. FWIW, Stiletto was making axes in California at that time so it could also be of local origin. Without a makers stamp on it you'll never know. In any case it sounds like a wonderful vintage piece.

What Bear said, pics please.
