E1 or E2 for your KL1?

Which surefire do you plan on putting the KL1 conversion? The single cell E1 or dual cell E2?

From what I've read the E2e with the KL1 is the brightest and longest runtime. I am in the process of buying an E2e and I will get a KL1 for it. Sounds like great lighting...

Of course the downside of doing the E2 is that you go from 60 lumens to 15. Quite a difference. The extended run time isn't bad though.

Tough decision. I am leaning towards the E1 simply for the size.

Or.... I could hold off and get the KL3 and the Emerson CQC-8 Surefire set. ;)

Decisions, decisions. :D

i'm thinking i might put one on my e2e too, although i might just save my money for the a2 first. 60 to 15 lumens is a big drop though. i wonder how most people will choose: a2, e2e-mn02, e2e-kl1, e1-kl1, l1, l2.....

I ordered a KL1 from TAD for my E1. I don't own an E2...and don't really plan to. :o

Heheh, I think I'm the only person who owns Surefires, but not the E2. :p

My only SF is an E2e, and my KL1 came today.
Have to say I'm a little disappointed in the output, but it's still a good bit brighter than my X5. It has some rings, and the hotspot is off-center (noticeable on a wall, but not in use), but renders colors beautifully...my biggest concern was that it would be off-color.
For some reason, in the pictures I've seen, it looked kind of funny when mounted. It looks really  in person, and the colors are perfectly matched with the body on mine. It's a big enough step up over the X5 that I'll keep it.

I think I'll go with an E1. I'll probably buy an E2 later. Thanks guys!

E2s are expensive to feed if EDC and used a lot (like I did before I got an US). So a KL1 is something I probably will get.

OwenM, are you comparing the X5T with the KL1 on E2e?

I'm really interested in how much brighter the KL1 is, since I'll only buy a KL1 if it can beat my X5T in terms of brightness.

AlphalphaPB,
I was comparing to my X5 (old-style), but I got to compare it with my best friend's X5T earlier tonight. The KL1 is noticeably brighter, and has better throw outdoors. [Sorry, no beamshots. If I'm able to get some with my nonexistent photographic skills later this week, I'll email them to you.]
I also got to use the KL1 for 30+ minutes at work this evening. I like it alot better than the X5. Not only brighter, but I like the quality of the light better. I know there are variations with these Luxeon Star LEDs, but the "violet" beam color alot of people are describing (and that I wasn't happy to hear about originally) is because it's on the blue and red side. This actually works out great in actual use, and is the reason that so much detail is visible with it, especially outdoors. My X5 looks yellow-green next to it. Instead of "fading out" natural colors, my KL1 makes them stand out more, because of the beam's contrast.
I love the X5, and had really set myself up to be disappointed with the KL1 after some of the stuff I'd read about the varying beam quality and brightness. Was initially underwhelmed by the brightness, but it turns out I'm real happy with the KL1, and glad I bought it. There are some things the X5 is still going to be better for, IMO, especially any time the light is used *very* up close. The KL1 is actually too bright for some stuff-like digging around in my locker, and later my truck looking for something tonight. Too much glare.

Kind of thought it was a waste of money getting this thing, since the E2e+X5 seemed like a great combination. It was really to have a new toy, but after just one day of use, I'm already convinced that this was the way to go for the things I need a light for most of the time, and it's the only one that I'll be carrying from now on, unless I'm sure that more throw and brightness will be needed. It's going to be my main light for work, EDC, and even camping.

Guess that was a long way to say "yes it's brighter", but I wanted to give the reasons I liked it better, and the positives, since I already made some comments on what I thought were the negatives.

I hope everybody else that gets these is as happy as I am with mine. It bothers me that there is so much variation in performance from one to the other in a production item (from what I've been reading on candlepowerforums). I think we should be able to know what to expect when we put our money down. Guess that's the price we pay if we want to try out this new technology stuff.

Lots of other people have commented on the KL1 on the LED forum at www.candlepowerforums.com in case you haven't looked around there.

I have both an E1e and E2, and I've been waiting for the KL-1s since I first heard of them. I held out when the MN-02 came out, and I resisted both the X-5 and the X-5T. From what I've heard so far, I think I'll be quite pleased with the KL-1 on either of my Es. Lumen output similar to the MN-01 and MN-02 with kick-ass runtimes, comparatively, especially in the E2.

If I need "lotsa light", I've always got my M-2 with me, with high and low bulbs. The KL bezel will easily fill my own needs for a pocketable light source for 80% of those times I need "just light", and it doesn't need to be blazing.

I'll probably try exchanging the KL on both E bodies until I find that I prefer or get more regular use out of one or the other body.
