Hi, just joined this forum and hoping for some help. I found a new Eafengrow EF142 that performed awesome on a video. My question is, does anyone know what it's a clone of, if it'sa clone? If there's a high quality original out there I'd much prefer to spend the extra money. Thanks for any assistance and info provided. Sorry, I don't know if posting links is allowed, so I didn't post the EF142 link.

Doesn't ring any bells to me but I'm not a huge fixed blade guy, my advice would be pass on the Eafengrow completely as they've been known to lie about steel in the past.
Thanks, I kind of figured those cheaper knives wouldn't be trustworthy on steel quality. That's why I'm hoping it's a clone so I can find the real knife of quality.

Doesn't ring any bells for me, but some might recognize if it's a clone.

How does the Maxwell hold up? I see it's only D2 steel.
I have used it for exactly nothing, so I am unqualified to answer this question with any authority. It wasn't too much money, looked interesting and sometimes you gotta scratch that itch, you know?

I think I told myself I was going to use it on squirrels or some other nonsense that we tell ourselves when we want a new knife. The butter groove on it is cool as hell and D2 has usually performed well for me in the past.

That one's called the M-32, but there might be others that are a little simpler and closer to the Eafengrow. It looks like the Eafengrow is basically that one, omitting a few details that would add significant cost.
Thanks, I found it but they are out of stock right now. Definitely looks like the original. I hope it comes back into stock soon.

I've got nothing against the Chinese companies who do it right. Eafengrow is not one of them. AFAIK, they don't actually make anything. They seem to be a rebranding distributor. Aside from copied designs, they have a tendency to stamp blades with whatever steel identity they think will sell.

For instance, LTK periodically sends out knives for XRF testing. Eafengrow has been a repeat offender. He determined that a lot of their "D2" is actually 8Cr13Mov. He'd often cut them some slack because "for the money, 8Cr isn't that bad" but I call BS on that. What's worse, I think he was overly generous in interpreting some of the data. Looking at the numbers, at least some of those "D2" knives were probably 5Cr15. 😮

Yeah, I want to go with the Miller Bro m32 original but I guess I'll have to wait until they are back in stock to add to my collection.
