Hi All,

Anyone has experience with these ceramic knives?

A while ago I wa sexcited about them, then due to inability to sharpen them got disappointed. Ceramics dull too ;) Slower that steel but still dulls. Eventually Cliff taught me how to sharpen ceramics, (sincere, mega thanks for that!) which is pain in the butt frankly, but does get the job done. Plus did improve my sharpening techniques... I mean after sharpening a ceramic blade or two freehand, those steel blades are a breeze :)

Anyway, those look interesting, I'd get one or two... So, did anyone already try them out?

Myself, I can't see why someone would go with a ceramic blade, novelty maybe, is it 100% ceramic or mixed with something to strengthen it? One question: whats happens if you take it to work and drop it? The ceramic blades I have seen are quite pricey and can't see spending the money on a blade that would shatter if dropped on anything other than carpet.

Ok, now you've got my attention. I don't suppose you'd mind sharing with us Cliff's method of sharpening ceramics? I was unaware that they could be sharpened outside of the factory...

I have had ceramic knives break just during shipping, and while they are not as brittle as glass, you can damage them a lot easier than steel.

Their advantage is that they are inert material, don't react with foods, won't corrode, and have high edge retention assuming you don't chip them.

I have not used that brand, Gator you might try dropping Fred (Knife Outlet) an email, he has used a lot of ceramics.
