Managed to get some time in the work-shop this weekend. Re hung and cleaned up my Kelly 'Silver Eagle'.
She was all rust so I used the vinegar treatment. The head is well worn so I took quite a bit of wood out of the haft to get a balanced look. The head is also a bit pitted, but still very acceptable. I would say this axe has been done-up and used by a real bushman...not a wood pile axe.

Good lookin' old gal. You've breathed a new life in her.

I bet she's close to 4 pounds.

A bit lighter now because of wear but she would have started life as a 4 1/2 pounder. My son in law found her and gifted her to me. She will probably end up in his collection one day. I have a scout or two looking for another but they are hard to find.
Thanks for looking. Always good to share with you 'Good old (or maybe young) Boys.

regards...Frank

Frank, That sure was a great find. Looks like you saved another vintage axe for future generations.

G'day Frank, came across a Kelly Silver Eagle (same as yours), fortunately noticed the markings as I was cleaning it as was going to 'modify' the shape a bit. Good to see these old axes being collected - it's of little use to me, do you want it? Brgds, Ross
