My son became an Eagle Scout Thursday night! The board of review had a kid postpone his review, so on Tuesday, we got a call, could Lee go Thursday? He went, and after about 45 minutes of Q&A, he was asked to step outside. A few minutes later, they invited him in and congratulated him. I was at a swim meet with our youngest, and about 8:00, I got a text from Lee, "I got it!" I dang near started crying.

At 15 years of age, my oldest son is an Eagle scout. Yup, I'm a proud daddy!

Many congrats tp both of you. A young man making Eagle Scout is often a reflection on his upbringing...ya both done good...

btw...what kind of knife does he get for his accomplishment?

Congratulations! A major accomplishment for him, and for his parents!

Something with Devin Thomas Damascus steel, I would hope.

Anyway, MarkCid84, congratulations to you and your son. He enters a proud history to continue it.

Congratulations!

Can you explain what the about thing is about? (no offense meant--I just would like to know)

That's the Board of Review. 45 minutes to an hour going over your Eagle project, merit badge record, things like that. In the old days, prior to about 1970, you could be called on to perform any of the things you learned through Scout training- knots, First Aid and the like. Nowadays it's largely paperwork and asking questions about your project.

Congrats to the lad! I did mine at 15, too- one of the proudest moments of my life. :D

Congrats, Mark! Your son does you honor. It's great to see.

That's great, Mark!

Even today, it still takes a lot of work to get your Eagle.

Sadly, my son did not stay involved with boy scouts.

I hope an Eagle rank will still carry alot of weight in your son's later years. They were very good to have on your resume.

To this day, an Eagle Scout starts their military career a little higher- Navy and Marine Corps as an E3, E2 for the Army and I believe E2 for the Air Force. It's also excellent on the resumé- it was a major door-opener and topic of conversation for grad school and medical school interviews.

You have every right to be a very proud father. Both of your son's accomplishment and yours. Most don't realize how much influence the parent's have on a boy who follows through like that.

Please pass along congratulations to your son.

Knife? Let's see...
I already have a NIB Spydercard for him. I get it engraved with his name, Eagle date, the Eagle, and The first line of the Bible verse in my signature line. I have a skinner set for his birthday, he might get that early, but he's gonna have to wait for the Robert Parrish Survival knife 'till he's older.

The 45 min Q&A was correctly answered by Sword & Shield.

I never had a chance to join scouting as a child, never lived in one town long enough. I live somewhat vicarously through Lee, he & I went through the Order of the Arrow ordeal together last summer, and I attend as many outings and camps as I can. If my youngest son chooses to stay in scouting, (he'll cross over in February) I'll be involved for several more years.

Yup, I am a proud Daddy!

That is an incredible accomplishment for your son!! Huge congrats to you BOTH!

Major congrats to you guys! Take the family out to the best dinner you can afford; he deserves it.

My son chose scouting over any other activity, so we're really into it. He's eight, and after talking to one of our friends who's an Eagle, he wants to do it too.

I'm taking over the local pack here in the fall, as the current pack leader is moving up into Boy Scouts. I want to kind of keep things going here locally; and I'm hoping I can help my son keep his interest up in it.

Regarding a knife, you might contact Buck with your son's info, and get an engraved 505 for him. (Or is it a 500? I'm not sure.) You can find info on it over in the Buck forum.

thx - cpr
