i was wondering if you guys had any advice on a new pair of earbuds, here is the criteria:

  • must be durable
  • in-line mike (play/pause and volume are also nice)
  • must be in ear
  • $50-$100
  • black if possible

Check out the Skull Candy site. I have 3 or 4 sets in my house and I've had nothing but good luck with them. I bought a pair 3 or 4 months ago and they were slow to ship, so I sent an email asking for delivery. The c/s rep felt bad that it took so long to ship that they sent me a complimentary pair for my wifes Ipod.

+1 on Skullcandy. My wife and kids have them and love them. The FMJ ones might fit what you are looking for.

With Skullcandy you're paying solely for looks, and they even use the same internals at different price points. They are not good quality sound and really should only be considered if you're looking for something cheap, might get busted up, etc. Given your price range, I suspect that isn't the case.

head-fi.org is the forum to go to for suggestions and reviews. Here is a relevant thread http://www.head-fi.org/t/477312/best-iem-w-mic-under-100-ne7m-vs-ip-hs5-vs-meelec-m11p-vs-s4i All the suggestions in there are drastically better than any Skullcandy ones.

These come with mic and control
-Maximo iP-HS5
-MEElectronics M11P
-Klipsch S4i

I'd add to that list the Maximo ip-595, which also has a remote and mic.

agreed on the skullcandy's.

also they have a really great warranty.

mine died after about a years worth of use -- i have no idea what had gone wrong, one earbud just stopped playing music. i was pretty gentle with the pair. i sent them back to skullcandy and they gave me store credit for another set at their online site. full store credit, so i got a brand new pair.

also, my understanding is that even if you damage your earbuds maliciously, there is still some redeemable value if you return the pair under warranty.

i call that above and beyond customer service!

The Shure SE215 is in your price range. My wife has the SE210 and really likes the sound.
