Following Bill Monroe's passing, it is the end of an era. For fans of Bluegrass, Bill and Earl, with Lester, are the beginning. And now the beginning has come to an end.

Well, thank you Mr. Scruggs and may you rest in peace.

For those who might not know what Earl did, here's a bit of his pickin' and grinnin'. RIP.

Sad day indeed. Earl spanned generations and brought bluegrass to countless numbers of people. I love what he did with Earl Scruggs and friends. When they jammed on Letterman, one of the best!

Go rest high up on that mountain, son your work on earth is done. Go to heaven a shoutin' praise to the Father and the Son.

I was introduced to Scruggs (and bluegrass in general) back in the 70s. A friend of mine, my original guitar mentor, went down to Nashville to record a single. He came back with a record from a "couple of hillbillies" that were in the studio at the time (Jim and Jesse).
We liked the Jim and Jesse album so much that Lon went looking and came back with the just-released "Let The Circle Be Unbroken" album and we listened to that thing for many hours. Set me on the road to bluegrass-style pickin'....

In addition to his straight 'grass stuff, Earl recorded guite a lot of interesting stuff with his kids and a variety of guest muscians via his "Earl Scruggs Revue" albums. I recall one that had Bob Dylan singing under a psuedonym as his record company wouldn't let him be named on the rival label.

R.I.P. Mr. Scruggs.
