The knife pictured below is a Bucklite426 that was modified by Mickey Finn (Phrobis III)by adding a belt clip and a thumb stud to the blade. This is the original concept knife for the Buck 186. Mickey and the other members of his shop carried this knife around for about a month to see how it worked out. Everyone seemed to like it and no significant changes were made to the original conceptual design.

Phrobis had a source for powdered titanium and they found a company to sinter the side plates for the new knife. Phrobis III made 50 of the new titanium folders prior to licensing the design to Buck Knives.

This is a custom 186 made by Mickey Finn. The circular recesses in the side plates are machined out to create a see through knife. It came with a custom pouch similar to the pouches used on the early XM9 bayonet prototype scabbards. The knife and scabbard are completely unmarked.

Thats cool! I wonder if any of those 50 were ever sold online and the seller/purchaser thought it was a standard Buck made 186. What I nice surprise it would be to find one of them!
Thanks for sharing!

I got this one on line. The seller didn't know exactly what it was but he knew it wasn't a standard 186.
