Hi All - I'm new to the Forum, and looking for info on a Busse knife that Jerry made in the early 80s. I bought it directly from Jerry when we were doing gun shows in the Michigan/Ohio area. At that time he called it the "Shark" and it was completely made by hand, by him.

It's a fixed blade with a hooked guard and a similar hook on the pommel so the knife will stay in your hand even if you don't grip the knife -- sort of a D ring effect without the complete handguard.

It came in a leather sheath made by a guy in Ohio named Don Baker -- who has since made some excellent leather sheaths for me.

The knife is new (not in the box, Jerry didn't have boxes back then...).

Trying to find out if anyone else has seen these (Jerry does remember making them) and establish a value. Since I'm not a premium member I can't attach images, but I'll be happy to send a photo if you request one at jimmi646@yahoo.com.

Thanks

Jim
First off, welcome to the Busse Forum. Glad to have another new face on board. ;) :D

If you would like to send me a pic of the Knife I will post it for you, maybe that will jog someone's memory.

Thanks Eric. If you can explain the process of posting the image I can do it -- that way I won't have to ask in the future.

Here is the Picture of the knife. I don't know anything about this one but I'm sure someone out there can help ;)

Jim,
In order to post pics you need to have space on the web(webpage), be a member of a site like www.photopoint.com or be a Premium or Gold Member of BF.

I hope this helps.

WOW !!! thats nice :) Never seen any Busse like it. Jim, if you need a place just to store the pic so you have a URL to use, let me know. I would be happy to put that pic on my web server for you.

Thanks, Eric. I appreciate you posting these photos.

I'll put some specs together and post them ASAP. If I remember correctly, Jerry made two different sizes of this knife, this one and a smaller model. When he first started out he made lots of different models and accepted custom work from folks at the shows.

He made a fantastic Indian-design knife with a jawbone handle and a blade of stainless steel that was worked to look like chipped flint. Remember that one Jerry?

Hi Jim,

Congrats on owning an absolutely beautiful piece of Jerry's work! It is the fighter that I always knew Jerry had the talent in him to make. ;)

Re: a value on that Shark. Given the popularity of Jerry's work, the extreme rarity of the model you've got there, and the fact that discontinued versions of current standard models (i.e. straight handled BM and SH) are in the $500-$700 range, your Shark would probably bring a lot of $$$ on the market. I would guess (pure guess on my part) you could easily get $1000+ for it.

What's the steel in that one? A2, ATS-34, or ????

Greg

That's the same logo on one of my pieces. Jerry said it was his original logo. that thing is old.
