Anybody know anything about these as far as value, specs, vintage, collectibility? I just bought one from seeing only one picture.

This is the sellers photo:

All I know about it is it is just the knife, no box papers or leather pouch. From what I can tell it is ivory Micarta that has yellowed. I don't even know if it say USA above Seki-Japan or not. I would appreciate any information. Thanks

Probably hasn't turned with age but is yellow paper micarta. I know that some knife companies to include Al Mar, Davis, Birt and others used the GE yellow micarta from about 1971 to 1990.

You're probably right about the micarta, I don't know where I got that idea from.

Your "idea" is actually correct. In an Al- Mar catalog dated with 1995 price list, the series of lockbacks using RS30 steel- Osprey, Hawk, Falcon and Eagle all are specified as using white micarta. The retail price for the white micarta Falcon was $124.50, $99 for the full titanwood model.

Oh, I found it again, there was a discussion about westinghouse micarta on another forum,

It's actually white when new(it was paper Micarta). It turns yellow with age and exposure to varying chemicals(oil, body and petroleum based, sun, salt water, WD40, etc.) . It's more of an orange yellow lke very old Ivory,. Not unpleasent at all. Early Al Mar folders from the late 70's early 80's used this material also, for scales. I have two of them. The boxed one is still white. The one I carry is dark yellow.

Interesting! So how did I do for $70 shipped??

Not "how did I do it?" I meant How did I DO? As in "How good of a deal was it?" ;)

Also, how much difference does it make if it has USA above the Seki-Japan? I read that The "USA" was dropped after the first 5000 units.

Well, I bought a rosewood Falcon with the swedge tip (pre-Talon) new in 1980 for $79.00 plus tax. It was stolen out of my house about nine years ago. I finally found one exactly like it a month ago...for $160. I'd say you did pretty well.

Anything less than $200 is a good deal. You stole it.

You really think it's worth that much?? I thought the link I posted above was a price that would never sell.

I have a Al Mar Eagle Talon from the 90's, bought it used about 10-12 years ago, and always assumed the steel was AUS-8. Should the blade be marked or is there a link that describes the differences of Al Mar knives?
