That's very beautiful. Why is it called a D-2 knife? Is that the steel used?

Thom that is the model. There are several letter/number designated knives. The kamis use old leaf springs to make the khukuris and wouldn't know what to do with D2 steel.;) :D

Yep. They may not be able to forge Damascus steel, but with what they have, they are the best.

I still don't understand what is happening in that steel...
 
awwww that is one of the hottest knives i've ever seen on dotd. might have actually pulled the trigger on this one had i seen it sooner.

They don't look decorative. Looks like the back of the sheath opens up. Would be hard to make a sheath/scabbard where this one just slid into it with the up turned point.
