I got a early birthday present today, a new Gränsfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet. My first impression is extremely favorable. I like the feel and balance better than any hatchet I have handled to date. I took it out to the campsite in our woods and in just a few moments I had gathered enough wood for a good sized cooking fire. I split some of the larger pieces for kindling and the somewhat thick handle eye on the head made this job easier. The blade seemed well aligned to the handle and I chopped a large dead tree in two with no blisters. Very nice handle shape. I cut a few wooden tent style pegs from green wood and grove them in the ground. The rear poll of the head seems I little small but it does this job in an acceptable fashion. I can't wait until deer season the tapered poll should be useful to loosen deer hide.

They are indeed quality stuff. Mine was hair popping sharp out of the box too!

A thoughtful gift that will only be enhanced by its timeless quality each time you use it. Enjoy!

Lovely piece of steel! My wildlife hatchet is in my 'never sell' box. Extremely useful in the woods.

Slight thread drift: is there any beef on the handle of the BRKT Kephart?

Glad you like it.

I think GB axes are one of the things that actually live up to the hype and are worth their price.

My Hunter's Axe is the finest axe I own, period.

If you mean do I like the handle on the Kephart, I do. I find it very comfortable in all grip angles. I have reached the point I enjoy the Kephart design handle as much as the Woodlore style knives.
