My Dad is 74 and handed down his love of all things sharp since I was old enough to remember. We've enjoyed collecting and using blades our entire lives. He knew I'd been wanting a decent little hatchet for quite some time but I just couldn't bring myself to spend over $100 and was picky.
Today he "made" me open a present early because he was excited. I didn't have a clue what was in the box. I was very surprised and pretty darn happy when I pulled out a Gransfors Bruks hand hatchet! I don't think much elaboration is needed but it's just what I would have bought. I have other larger/longer axes, etc.. but this is too cool! Oh yeah it shaves. Thanks Dad.

Thanks, I also find it neat that I know Mattias Matteson put his mark on his craft.

Congrats! Your dad sounds like a cool guy. He was so excited he couldn't wait till Christmas day to give it to you.

That is Great. Enjoy your gift and your Father. You are very fortunate.
Merry Christmas!

Thanks. Some knife guys might call BS but this hatchet is so sharp that I believe I could face shave with it. The convex edge is unreal. I'm thinking about buying a couple paper wheels for my old grinder.

It's possible, as this video shows, although that double bit axe gets pretty close to his ear.

Heck, I believe you!
All 3 GB's that I have came that way... even the splitting maul ;)

It might be a bit of a challenge to shave with the maul though :D

Really nice hatchet you've got there.

And there's no way that this guy actually did this (at least I hope not), but after seeing that video I just had to share this.

Very nice, I've been wanting to pull the trigger on the GB Small Forest Axe to replace a Wetterlings Hunters Axe I traded away.
Merry Christmas!!

I rehafted a DB similiar to that one today. I couldn't decide if it was a peeling or reversible. I now know it's a shaveing pattern.
