I've commented a couple of time around here but this is my first post so let me say hello to everyone.

My wife and I have a lot of family to visit on Christmas so we celebrate it a day early. Got a couple of surprises this morning!

I asked for the Gerber saw and the RC-5 but she found the Spyderco and Izula at a local shop and she picked them out! I broke the whistle :( stupid me. I've got it glued on there right now but I'd like to buy a new one. Anyone know if I can get just the whistle?

For people out there that wear Carhartts I found the the MOLLE lock fits perfectly around the divider/strap above the leg pocket as you can see in the last photo.

I have to say the little Spyderco fits amazingly well in the hand for such a small handle.

Now that I've got some sweet new equipment and the ticks have gone into hibernation it's time to go build some shelters and fires! :D I'll post some picks of my outdoor adventures as they happen.

If you want just the whistle, PM me your shipping address and you can have mine. I have to find it, but I'm pretty sure I know where it is. I don't really have a use for mine, so it's yours if you want it.

Awesome! Sounds like you've got a good one!

I've got some of those whistles, if you want to email me your address I'll send one out to you.

Looks like de4th beat me to it!

Well, if I can't find mine your next in line then! :p

I'm pretty sure I know which drawer it's in.....but I have been known to lose things in the past. :D

that looks like a good gaggle of gifts. i am opening my izula tomorrow. the wait is killing me. how do you like everything so far. do you think the MOLLE lock would fit a standard belt?

Hey thanks guys! I didn't expect people would just give me a whistle! You guys RULE! I'll let you figure out who's got one laying around and I can send them a self addressed postage payed envelope.

I should be able to tell you sometime this afternoon, I'm supposed to get off work in around 30 minutes or so, gotta run some errands after that, and then I'll check on it as soon as I get home and see what I got.

I woke up at 2:30 this morning I was so excited and couldn't get back to bed :eek:

The quality of these knives is very impressive. The handles on the RC-5 fit perfectly flush. The coating seems to be very durable from what little I've done so far and the sheaths are simply astounding compared to what usually comes with a knife. A couple of swipes on the strop and they are razor sharp. So far I couldn't be happier but I'm sure I will be when I get them out in the field :D

I was a little scared after asking for the RC-5 because of what I've read on some forums but after getting my hands on it it's exactly what I was looking for. It may make a bit of a mess slicing a tomato but my truck isn't going to race in the Indy 500 either.

If you get the RC5 knowing what it's designed to do, then you will not be dissapointed (and it seems like you understand that). It's basically a sharpened prybar (Jeff, I mean that with the utmost respect and honor) that will do anything and everything you need it to do in a survival situation. It's not going to be the best slicer, or the best chopper, or the best anything. But it is the best at doing all these things really friggin well, and keeping you alive when SHTF. I think some people expect it to do everything perfectly, and that's where the dissapointment comes in. There is always a trade off with knives, but the RC5 is the closest to a perfect survival knife that I have seen. Personally, I think if you were to pair it up with an Izula or RC3 you would have the perfect survival/camping/whatever package. Just my opinion though......

The MOLLE fit's my belt ok, but you have to snap it into place. The slot is too narrow to slide the belt into.

This may not affect many other people out there but the only reason I hesitate to carry on my belt is that Maine knife laws are kind of fuzzy and if my coat or shirt slips down over it then I'm carrying concealed. I have a concealed firearms permit but that only covers FIREARMS. Stupid, I know but that's the law here.

Yeah, we have a similar law here in VA, with the exception that our CWP covers knives, or so I have been told (honestly I think it depends on the cop that sees it). The sad thing is, the people that worry about this law aren't the ones that will do harm to others, it's the ones that will carry concealed no matter what that you need to worry about. But I don't think police and officials have quite figured that one out yet......

thanks for the response. so you have to snap it onto the belt? and once that is done does it lock into place?

The MOLLE folds down and snaps/locks into place. It can lock over any strap/belt like object. Seems like it works pretty good on my my belt.

EDIT: I do have to say that I have not carried it this way though and this is my first experience with MOLLE clips, maybe someone else has more knowledge about it than I do on the subject.

After posting I was thinking I don't see any difference in using the MOLLE clip on a belt rather than the nylon straps.

The MOLLE will lock down over anything that it can fit over. For example, my 5.11 instructors belt will work great with them, but my leather Wrangler belt is too thick for it to work. Since MOLLE is fairly thin, you can't use a thicker belt, otherwise it wont work. They will bend a little bit, but then I would think that they'd break. I have yet to break mine, but I do know that it wouldn't bend enough to go over the aformentioned leather belt. Just my $0.02....

They do sell just the spring steel belt clips at some hardware stores. It looks like it would be real easy to screw one to the back of the sheath. You can also carry it on a belt with the paracord. There are directions about this with the paperwork

CWP = Concealed Weapons Permit
CFL = Concealed Firearms License

Sounds like your CWP might cover more than firearms but like you say it's still hard to tell. I find that most states have knife laws that are difficult to interpret. Mostly I've never been harassed by the police when it comes to knives, I am always polite and non threatening but it only takes one to decide he wants to make my life miserable.

And like you said, the worst part is that criminals aren't to worried about breaking the law.
