Hey guys, I'm about to commit a sin, but please bear with with me. Yes, I'm going to ask about a knife, and not post pics. Would love to, but at this stage, not happening.

Looking at a knife passed to my brother-in-law from his late grandfather. Its a little rough, (a bit bent) but in decent shape. Obviously had a very high polish from the maker, and I can see a small maybe 1/8inch near the edge, indicating a laminate blade. Its a small hunter pattern, 8.5inch overall, slight clip, single fuller, almost zero-ground bevel. leather stack handle, and aluminum cap and bolster.

However, the markings seem to be electro-penciled on Tang stamp is what I think S&S Helle (caps, but the e's are half the size of the H)
And along the fuller on the same side it reads 18/8 high carbon edge, but the letters are very shaky.

I'm going to clean it up for my BIL and oil the handle and sheath (the sheath has a plastic trim strip along the blade edge... weird) As it is a sentimental piece for him. But I was wondering when the knife might be from. I'd have guessed 70s, but could be earlier, potentially bought in Italy before they moved to australia in the early 50s, after that here, or might have come from a relative in europe after that.

Any thoughts? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Helle knives are still around, so we really need some pictures:) If you are having trouble getting pictures to post you can PM or email them to me and I will be happy to post them for you.

I have a small collection of Nordic knives including several Helle with the marking you describe. I would agree it seems to be a 50's-60's mark. Nothing like the modern Helle marks.
