Anyone have any ideas about what model this was and when it may have been made? The blade is 9" and the knife is 14" in overall length.

It's a good one, you can send it to me... :) ...

I would take it over to Leroy's and let him give it a spa job...:thumbup::thumbup:

Here's a Picture of Joe H set... This is Oregon (Steve) Picture... Don't kill me Steve... It's a good picture...

:)

It's a group 4, circa 1947-1948 and its a model 120. Its a great find and a rare one at that. Valued at $1000.00 (not many made).

Thank you Matt.

I'd like a few more photos of the target knife and the sheath if it's possible.

Thanks for the great info. Unfortunately, the knife didn't come with the sheath. The blade looks as though it saw very little use and the knife shows no signs of having been fooled with.

It looks to be in great condition, the blades where high carbon steel, and had a high rate of pitting and rust. This knife looks as though it missed all of that. The lucite handle looks amazing. Its just a great knife.

The lack of a sheath likely played a big role in the blades current condition. Decades of sheath storage probably would have resulted in more corrosion.

Are there any photos of the BBQ set anywhere? Were the blades from those sets as thick as the standard hunting knives? At any rate, the knife shows there are still some nice finds for the Goodwill treasure hunters out there.

I found some photos of the BBQ set to compare. Are the dimensions of the large knife mentioned anywhere?

After comparing the blade grinds and just the general look of the knife, it certainly looks like the large knife from the BBQ set. Anyone got the other six just laying around gathering dust somewhere?

Good Luck with that. The old 120s look very similar to that knife. They didn't look anything like the modern day 120s. The blade was thin and long like the OPs knife. Although the OPs knife does look like it came from a BBQ set they do look alot alike.

I also agree that these two look very similar. Here are some pics that may help. I also think it was part of a BBQ set. If you don't like it, I also will be happy to take it ;). It's a great knife.

Sidebar: The life boat knife, a donor to early blade transplant slip joints by Buck, came up in this thread so here are a few photos of these inexpensive and interesting folders from days gone by (top two have wood slabs and bottom one with can opener has man-made scales and is the newest model.
