My Mini Barrage 586 just arrived and the blade is marked "First Production 302 of 750" in two lines on the "OSBORNE" logo side of the blade. Not yet familiar enough with Benchmades to know whether this is the usual practice or not for new models. I presume it is primarily aimed at collectors.

Overall a very nice knife IMO with no feelable blade play.

Actually IMO it's not. (Regarding collectors.) And the numbering is normal. There are typically three runs, maybe more from Concept to Prototype, to First Production then Regular production. The first two are the most desirable and hold the highest value to collectors, and the final production with any numbers are the ones most seek. Numbers on the blade do not add a lot of value; some like them some don't.

IMO, I would rather they had a Collector's Club like Spyderco, send the first production models to them, and then leave the numbering off the rest. As you can tell, I am not a big fan of the numbering. :) I don't care if I am number 243 out of 1000 when they are going to make 10,000 more...
