Am seeking more info about a pristine never used or seen the light of day blade.

I’ve come across a pristine old small CRK Regular Sebenza that I can offer to buy. I think it is from 199X and has the Titanium pocket clip with only one, not the customary two dimples. It appears just as the one drawn by William W. Harsey in 1996 and shown at (http://www.chrisreeve.com/sebenzadetails.htm). The blade had no markings, that I could see, noting the material used. I assume it is either ATS-34 or BG-42 blade steel.

Here are a couple of pics (or at least once I've learned how to get them into my post - posting rules say I can't post attachments.)

There seems to be lots of information about current CRK small Sebenzas on the internet but not much about the earlier versions.

I’ll probably buy a small Sebenza soon and am keen to know more about this knife and would very much appreciate if anyone could post some information about early versus current Senenzas.

The sort of information that interests me is;

(A) What year is the pictured small regular Sebenza likely to be?
(B) Build quality - Have changes in manufacturing techniques and production numbers had an influence?
(C) Blade material - What is the blade material likely to be & which is considered better ATS-34 or BG-42 or S30V?
(D) Are earlier versions in mint condition generally worth more or less than current new offerings? That is a new small Sebenza 21 vs earlier small Classic or Regular.

Thanks in advance

That is a very sweet Sebenza! I would say that it is BG42, it is definitely an older regular model owing to the retro pocket clip and beadblasted screws. It is definitely more valueable than current Sebenzas, by how much I can't say.

Thanks for all your helpful posts. I’ve since followed up more information on this particular Sebenza. The current owner claims all the documents and box are complete and original. I forgot to look inside the box for the original Allen hex key spanner though. Anyway following pics are of the documents and box.

I have a small regular LH from just about the same date - it is a great 'user.' The BG-42 blade is a great performer, though it takes a little more to sharpen if you let it get dull. If you haven't purchased it yet, you should, as long as it isn't too badly over-priced. :)

Very cool. Thanks for the photos. Would love One like that. Still haven't got a small Sebenza. But waiting till I find the right one.

Good morning, Heywood. I thought I'd add a few thoughts to my previous e-mail. That little certificate does answer alot of questions, doesn't it? I would have guessed that the knife was from '97-99 just from the style of the clip. The profile of the spine of the blade, and the more forward position of the CR logo also indicate it was an early model. Now you know the blade steel too.:thumbup:

Great little knife you have there. Given the production date, I'd say that it is one of the very first small Regular-style Sebenza's produced. CR started with the new style in Mid 1996 with the large version, which ran through 200 numbered units. After that production run, they added the production of smalls sometime in 1997.

Great find!

Checked mine this morning...August 28, 1997. Same papers and box, but also had a pad of triangular "post-it"-type notes in the box. :)
