Hi,

Here are some photos of an early winter hike today in the Whiteshell, Manitoba. I took my new Ray Mears/Alan Wood Woodlore out for a bit of breaking in :)

Here's the trail:

Here is some of the scenery:

These are the blades I brought along... a Woodlore and an Ed Caffrey EBK1 (which I pocket carry instead of a folder):

I built a small fire, with birch bark and dry grass tinder on a fatwood base in in the snow, which I lit with a firesteel using the Woodlore (worked like a charm!). I made some nice tea with Jack Pine needles::

I can feel the wind, snow and smell of your fire.
Really love your blades, the tea looks so fine also.
Thanks for sharing awesome pics and great story.

Awesome pictures, thanks for sharing the days adventure with us. Good to see that Woodlore out and about like it was designed to be.

Thanks for your gracious and poetic reply! :)

Thanks everyone for your responses... it was a beautiful day.

Postcard perfect nature shots! The knife is very nice too :). Its surprising how little snow there is so far this year.

Some truly excellent and breathtaking pictures! Nice job. Thanks much for sharing, and kudos for actually using your Woodlore.

wow.. those are some amazing pics.. i really like that 2nd one..

great looking blades too.. i have always liked those Caffrey EBK's...

Those are really gorgeous pictures. Its been about 13 years since I was at Whiteshell.

Beautiful scenery and nice fire pictures!
The RM/AW Woodlore knife, despite it's critics, has a lot going on in the design that can only be known by handling one. I kick myself for parting with mine.
Great to see one actually out in the field! You know who to call when your sick of it. ;)

Nice! Haven't been able to get out to the Whiteshell much this year :( . Was probably the second most visited wilderness area in my youth next to a cabin near Red Lake, Ontario. The way the fresh snow accents the browns and greens is stunning, I love the quality of light we get here late in the year as well. Great photography!
