I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with this operation.

They seem to offer a wide range of outdoor and wilderness skills programs. I was thinking of testing the waters with a wild edible class, but the "Realm of the Scout" sounds very interesting.

Your thoughts?

A bit more detail from their site. Anyone familiar with Tom Laskowski?

The Realm of the Scout
The Scout Class: Stealth – Awareness - Survival - Self-Reliance
The Native American Scouts were the eyes and ears of their tribes. Their highly honed skills and heightened Awareness was a critical aspect in insuring the safety of their people. Join us as we re-create this experience in the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina.

Days will consist of learning and practicing various skills, then perfecting them in a simulated “Real World” situation. You’ll learn how to move through the woods unheard and unseen as your Tribe moves as a unit through the landscape observing nature and other tribes.
These skills are thousands of years old and can be adapted to fit any environment or situation…whether it be an urban, rural or wilderness setting.

This class will be a collaborated class between Earth School and Tom Laskowski of The Midwest Native Skills Institute. Come join us for this incredible experience! Reserve your spot today !

Skills you’ll learn during the week include:

*Advanced survival skills
*Advanced awareness exercises and techniques
*Advanced tracking skills
*Natural camouflage...essential for nature observation
*Self-protection skills…enter the world of Samurai**
*Understanding the “Pulse” of the woods, allowing you to sense disturbances and potential threats

I have. It was run by Richard Cleveland. I met him when I was a little kid (I think 13), took the class, and just got an OK vibe from him. Not the most friendly guy I've met. He just basically does what the tom brown guys do. Friction fire, fox walk, etc. I don't know if it is still active or not, but here is another NC based one:

I know all the guys at Earth Connections that Joe posted the link to.

If you have any question feel free to ask.

Thanks for the feedback and a second option.

I'd like to hear about any other school of this sort, if any, that might be in the Western Carolina mountains.

Tryon really isn't in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is more of the foothills of the Blue Ridge. The Smokies are further west. The Tryon area is more known for horses and steeplechase racing.

Don't know a thing about the school but they sound like they have some interesting classes.

Took my kids there a couple of years ago for the two day weekend survuval ntro class & they loved it. Richard is a great guy & an excellent instructor, displaying great patience when dealing with kids. Always supporting & encouraging, never critical.
