Spiral gave me some good information in resposne to a prior question, but can anyone out there tell me what "ESA" means or represents when stamped on a military Khukuri?

Hi,
I would guess that ESA under a broad arrow is some kind of army inspection mark, but that is just an educated guess,
Others here may be able to give you the difinative answear.

SA is a common inspection mark, but I don't know what the E represents. I have seen it before in combination with the small broad arrow on not just kukris but bayonets as well. It appears on edged weapons from India from 1944 thru 1958.

JDP, in this case the other side of the blade is marked "9 - 41." I know from my puttering with old military rifles that this matter of markings can be a tangled patch. Thanks for your response.

That would be the September, 1941 which puts the SA mark earlier than that 1944 date currently published.

HH, not my area of expertise, but if it has the same marks and is from India I'd guess it went thru the same inspection process.
