Easily Cleanable Knife

I'll be working around concrete a lot next year and its hell getting that stuff out of my calypso Jr. So im looking for either a folder with really easy to clean scales and locking mechanism (possibly one that can be taken apart easily). The blade must be stainless, not nessesarily H1, but no D2 or other semi-stainless steels. I would like to spend around or under $100 if this is possible. I'm also considering a fixed blade cause this would be much easier to clean but in Toronto even when I'll be working the sheeple wont appreciate a fixed blade much esspecially in a kydex sheath.

Thanks,
Lyle

P.S. As much as I would like a sebenza I just cant spend that much money on a knife yet and if I did I dont think I would use it around concrete anyways.

Maybe one of the CRKT M16 knives with the aluminum frame?

The lack texture and can be easily cleaned, and they can be disassembled too.

Good luck,
Allen.

Good idea, Allen! They're pretty good knives from what I've seen, the linerlock shouldn't be bad to clean either.

I think most Spydercos are out of the question just because of the pinned construction...too bad, they're great work knives.

Do you want this knife to be your daily companion, not just for work? Otherwise, I would HIGHLY suggest getting less expensive fixed blade that would be small, light, and pretty easy to carry. Cleanup would be pretty easy ;)

OR a Benchmade Nimravus/Gamer if you want a nice carry

I have a Case lockback hunting knife called the Blackhorn 3.5 #2104L SAB SS that has a neat feature that allows cleaning it easily. This knife isn't that old and is stainless so it is probably still out there somewhere.

You may want to look for it or post on the Case forum to see if anyone can direct you to one. It was designed for easy cleaning after field dressing but it could be just as easily cleaned after a job like you are talking about also. It is a high quality design and not fragile or flimsy by any stretch of the imagination.

I carried this knife for a while but elected to go with one hand openers more often. However, it would be quite easy to install a thumb stud on a knife like this.

allenC's suggestion of a CRKT M16 is a good one in my opinion. I've been carrying one around for about 3 years now for dirty work. Mines been covered in some pretty unpleasent stuff, and I've been able to take it apart clean it up.

My personal preference is the M16-13Z Spear point, part serated blade with the Zytel handle. Its a little heavier in the handle than the Aluminium, which I prefer.

The M16 with various blades etc. are plentyful on ebay from about $30(US) for a straight spear point with Zytel Handle to about $80 for the same blade with Titanium handle.

Happy Hunting what ever knife you choose.

STR-that's pretty cool. I never saw a Case like that. Thanks for the pics. I think the Camillus EDC is a pretty easily cleanable pocket knife as well.

Kershaw Vapor/Storm, Buck Hilo/Cutback, BM Monochrome, Camillus EDC, there are some cheap framelocks out there that could be cleaned pretty easily.

Thanks Fudo.
It is a pretty cool knife. If it had a pocket clip I'd still be carrying it. I have a sheath for it but don't particularly find that an appealing option because I already have my Swiss Tool and my pistol so there isn't much room for another sheath option. ;)

I went out to the shop after writing that first post and put a thumb stud on it though. Works great. Just can't seem to make a clip work though.

For a fixed-blade option, consider a Bark River Woodland. They're small enough not to freak anybody out, and you can even get one in blaze orange so if you drop it somewhere it will be easy to spot. Micarta or G-10 scales, should be able to take a beating.

I'm glad this thread got started because it gave me something to do this morning while waiting for some other projects I have going to set up. (Epoxy)

I did manage to update this old companion of mine. Even made me a custom pocket clip of titanium and drilled and threaded the metal liner so it mounted up solid. Thumb stud works great and I like!

I guess I was wrong on the statement that this knife isn't that old there in my first post. I keep reciepts for everything and I found the one for this one in my knife record book. I bought this at a J.C. Penny store in Belleville Illinois back in June of 1985. So it is older than I thought.

I used to carry it before the one hand openers and pocket clips started coming out but gave it up when the new more convenient ones were available. Guess time flies when you are having fun. Seems like just last year but it was when I was still in the Air Force. Go figure.

Thanks to this thread though, it is updated now for some more pocket time. I always did like this one anyway. Now it is even better.

I'll say Mora. They're dirt cheap, sharp, easy as hell to clean, and people don't usually get freaked out by them. People tend to think the one i have looks a bit like something you'd find in the kitchen.

This is the first time I've seen that Case Blackhorn anywhere else. I have one with the grey handles and still in the original Case sheath. Just been sitting in the knife case for a long time now. I think it was given to me by a sales rep many moons ago. Neat concept.

Is the sheath with yours kind of open in the back when off the belt? I have the sheath also. I like this knife a lot. I always liked it from the first time I saw it. Every now and then I see one on ebay. Last one went for just over $30 so I don't think they set the world on fire for value but they are cool. I didn't know they made them in grey handles also.

Yep, I second the Vapor, you can dissassemble/clean/reassemble very quickly and easily.

Here's a quick pic. The sheath just has a large nylon loop at the back. Never carried this knife or used it much at all. It's got a good feel in the hand though and is hell for sharp.

Mr.Mojo, thats pretty cool. Mine came with a leather sheath.

Do you mean to say it is dull, doesn't keep an edge or that it has a great sharpness? I don't follow. Let me know in a PM or email if you ever want to get rid of it. I like the color of that better than bright orange.

Yeah, mine is sharp too but because I keep it that way. I wish it kept the edge better but I'm sure it is par for the course because of the stainless Case used. I do think it is by far better than the 'Tru-Sharp' stainless they are using now though.
