so in recent posts, I've heard stories that when people send their knives to benchmade to get sharpened, they take of WAY to much steel. so I'm not sure if i want to send it in. so does anyone know of any sharpening tools to easily put a nice sharp edge on a bm mini grip? i have never put a sharp edge on a knife, I've ruined a few trying :p, but thats not the point lol. so, any suggestions?:D

Spyderco Sharpmaker.

Inexpensive, foolproof, and it works.

...just don't try to re profile anything. For that get a better tool like the Edge Pro. If on a budget and already own a Sharpmaker make the investment and buy the diamond stones; and for touchups the 'SM' Is a good tool.

I got my first Benchmade (mini grip)for Christmas. It wasn't real sharp out of the box, but sharp enough. I usually sharpen my knives on the bottom of a coffee cup (a ceramic mug)and tried this on my Benchmade (154 cm) and with just a few swipes on each side of the blade, I was impressed with how sharp I was able to get it. It will definitely shave arm hair! By the way, my first and only Benchmade and so far, I honestly can't find anything I don't like about this knife.

On a budget the sharpmaker is an excellent choice but if money isn't to much of an issue then the wicked edge pro pack is amazing.

+1

I went with this sharpener years ago after realizing I'm sharpening impaired no matter hard my father tried to teach me free hand. Used it for years on many different knives and steels.

I did pick up a set of the diamond sleeves. More for when I get an old beater that's been used to open paint cans or something. And a set of the UF stones for finishing up. Maybe strop a little too while watching tv.

Get a diamond bench stone (my DMTs have lasted a couple of decades) and learn to sharpen freehand. It's not difficult, basically you take a little metal off each side until the bevels meet.

Well, I did reprofile my Nitrous Strykers on one. But it was Not Fun. :)

If it involves sharpening and it isn't in here, it does not exist.

The trick is, don't let the knife get too dull if possible and the Sharpmaker is a very simple tool to use. If you have a really dull knife, you may benefit from the diamond triangles. It would also be beneficial to you to learn how to sharpen a knife with either a decent stone or two, or sandpaper on a hard flat surface. It's not hard at all to sharpen a knife, what puts people off is their impatience and they freak out when they don't see results after 15 seconds of work. It takes time, dedication, and practice to learn.

I've got a Wicked Edge, I'll do it for you if you pay return shipping. Email me if you'd like me to help out. :)

thanks for the offer, but I'm most likely going to get a stone and learn how to sharpen, or get a spyderco sharpmaker. mostly because i want something that when it loses its sharpness i can touch up on my own. but thanks anyway!!

as jkarp_53 said, Sharpmaker with the diamond triangles too. I have this set up with ultra fine triangles as well. My 4 Grips and the Sharpmaker seem to have been made for eachother no other knife I own sharpens as well on it as my Grips. I can get a semi mirror edge going from the diamond triangles to medium to fine then to ultra fine. Now if I only had a strop

For the money, I really don't think you can beat the SM. From the BM factory, the angle on the Grips is roughly 42 degrees inclusive, give or take. My Grip has a D2 blade, so I wasn't going to even attempt to reprofile it to 40 on the SM, so I took it to a professional and had it redone to 40 on their grinders. Now I can easily maintain and resharpen the edge on the SM with no big time investment.

If the price of the Spyderco Sharpmaker is too much for you, then get yourself a Lansky 4-rod Turn Box (LCD4D). I use it to sharpen my BM Mini-Grip 556, as well as my other knives.

I would say grab some diamonds. I went the reverse route some have suggested; I bought diamonds first and now I need to get a sharp maker.
