My wife and other family members started to go for an after dinner walk. Across the cul-de-sac out strolls a good size bear from the neighbor's garage. He was carrying a plastic garbage bag. The town just moved a sow and her two cubs from under a deck about 200 feet from where this photo was taken. This time of year, I do most of my knife work outside. Last year I had a visitor, although not this big. I will be keeping an eye out for the new neighbors.

Awww Whinny the Pooh came by to say hello ;) Don't be leaving any honey pots outside!

So, help me if you can, I've got to get back to the house at the corner by one.

Oh man, that's awesome. Black bears are really beautiful creatures and a lot of fun to watch.

Stay safe...

We normally have these with us when going up north.

Good lookin boy he is, I can imagine it pretty incredible to see that in the wild but I would be Leary of turning my back to him. Here in indiana, we dont have bears, but we have had a comeback of bald eagles that where almost gone from this area. Ive had a few encounters with them while kayaking some remote spots of the river. Had one come about 10 ft. from my boat and grab about a 4lb. bass. He went to a nearby branch and with one flip of the beek, had it ripped in about three bitesized pieces. That kind of stuff to see in the wild is amazing in my book.

When I was living in eastern Tennessee a fair sized black bear got hit in I-40 about 3 miles from my home. I already kept a 12 gauge loaded with deer slugs in addition to a .357 by my bed for unwelcome visitors on 4 paws/feet. Situational awareness helps. I hate surprises!
