Well I've finally gotten around to doing another "Near Orient" inspired boot dagger. This one is a bit cleaner than the last one, I believe, and a different feel with the 304 stainless/pure nickel/W2 laminated blade. The habaki was patinated with a boiling solution of interesting chemicals and it's beauty is not captured in the photo. It has a kind of sparkling/textured look in real life.. and much more resilient than other patinas I've tried. The spacer/ferrule is ebony and the wood is more of the magical manzanita sent to me by Mark Farley. I'm still trying to decide how to pin the rest of the handle since it is morticed, split scales and needs something else to support the epoxy... but I love the simple look of the single pin so I took these quick photos. I'm really kicking myself for not putting in hidden pins.. and I suppose I could still do this with wood plugs... although I've never attempted it before.
