I'm leaving this Saturday for an 11-day vacation with my wife.

Here is the route

Going to New Orleans from Ohio:
Cleveland on Rt 71 to Louisville KY
Rt 65 to Birmingham AL
Rt 20 to Meridian Miss
Rt 59 to New Orleans

Coming home via Natchez will be;
New Orleans on Rt 55 to Summit Miss
Rt 98 to Natchez Miss
Natchez Trace Parkway to Jackson Miss
Rt 55 to Memphis Tn
Rt 40 to Nashville
Rt's 65 & 71 back home

Anyone have any suggested knife shops or factories worth a stop and see on the way? I'd like to keep them within a few miles of the highways we'll be traveling since my wife will not be as enthusiastic about the stop as I will.

The good thing is that I don't let her smoke in my Explorer so she'll welcome the smoke break :D

Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks!

On the way back, take a detour and continue 180 miles eastward on I-40 until you get to Sevierville, TN so you can check out Smokey Mountain knife Works. There is also a knife shop in Lebanon, TN at a mall off of I-40 but I can't remember its name. If you do not want to detour, you might check out the Walnut Bowel in Nashville which is close to Pryland and there is a Walnut Bowel (Chicago Cutlery) in Tunica, MS about 40 miles south of Memphis if you go down highway 61 where all the casinos are.

No "must see" places that I know of.

On I-65 in Goodletsville (suburb N. of Nashville) there is Rick Useltons shop. It is a nice gun store with a decent selection of factory knives (esp european brands) and a smattering of customs. Full price though...You can see the sign from the interstate (east side)

I agree about Smoky Mountain, Anthony. They had quite a nice selection of customs and Randall's last time I was there.

Smokey mountain is quite a place to visit but a wide detour from your path. There is a ton of outlet shopping there (some of it actually decent) and that might get you "permission" to travel there. It is factory knife heaven and the only major player they don't stock is microtech. As of a few months ago the custom / Randall section was a little thin but they had a ton of collectible old knives.

The place in Lebanon was originally called knife shack but is now called "cutlery world" or something like that. Probably not worth the drive. It is in the Walmart strip mall.

I would also encourage the detour to Smoky Mountain. It is definitely worth the trip.

You might be able to appease the wife with some time in Gatlinburg which is very close by.

When you drive through Cincinnati, Stop on the Kentucky side in the city of Newport. On Monmouth St. at the 10 block there is a distributor called Cecil Clark Knives. You will be very happy you stopped by. For more info email me.

cpirtle,

If you do decide to stop through town come by and see us. Beautiful area of the country and 50,000 square feet of knives and accessories.
