I think i know the typical answers i may get but i want to get some thoughts from everyon. I am looking for a folder with a strong lock, fairly stout blade, around 3.5" or so and under $200. I am thinning my heard to upgrade but i cant justify anything more expensive, i usually rotate slipjoints for work or my mini griptian but outside of work its a kershaw JYD, spydie delica or my large sheepfoot griptilian. As you can see my taste varies...and nothing that big other than my large grip which really isnt carried that often because its a bit fat in the pocket at times. All that said the first knife that comes to mind is an Emerson a-100 or mahbe a zero tolerance...unfortunately the only knives i can handle in my area typical inexpensive spyderco, buck, gerber options so i am doing a lot of research. One wild card is the paramilitary 2 but i have read of thin tip issues and i dont wand a needle tip blade as i have small folders to fill that niche....any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Emerson Mini-Commander,Vindicator.
ZT 0801, 350, 0562.
Spyderco Manix2.
Benchmade 903

ZT 0801, 0562, 0550
Spyderco Gayle Bradley, Manix 2
Benchmade 581
Kershaw Rake, Blur(you can get these in s30v, Elmax, and other steels)

Oh...almost forgot that i am generally not a fan of recurves unless the design calls to me. Blurs has been a thought but the traction inserts seem annoying...i see a BM581 was mentioned and honestly love the design i had one but it was just too thin of a blade...if it was thicker i think that may win out

I would say Benchmade 755 MPR. Spyderco tuff seems like it would hold up to more abuse than my Gayle Bradley. Havn't touched either one yet so that might not be accurate.

This is a funny thread because the other day I realized that if i were in the military, I would not rely on any of my folders. The blades are simply too thin and I would not trust my life on most of the locks. I thought to myself, I need a Medford, Strider or a BM755. Guess which is the cheapest....

If by stout you mean literally a physically stout knife then I would say ZT 0550, I got a first gen for 150 and wouldn't trade or sell it. If by stout you mean durable and can take a beating the blur in elmax or s30v or the para 2, or again the 0550. I don't really know what the deal with people being scared to break the tip of the para 2. Its not THAT thin and you will only break it by doing something really abusive with the blade.

Thin profile, strong blade, easy carry, long blade, great edc = BM 940

If you want something more hand filling, Gayle Bradley or Emerson mini-CQC15 or 7V (I prefer the 15 and V7 over the A100)

Anyone have a spyderco terzoula starmate? The gayle bradley would be a strong consideration but i would prefer stainless for locking folders

Stout reminds me of the BM 755 MPR. Everything else is "beefy", "big", "thick", but the 755 is epitome of "stout" IMO.
